Some of my DIY Flight Interfaces I made for MSFS2020

Not sure this is the right place. I just wanted to share some of the hardware interfaces I have been building.

I used STM32 bluepill boards that cost $3.00 each. I used firmware called "FreeJoy" that made it all very easy to setup.

The bottom has 2 encoders and 8 switches. This one probably cost about $20 to build. The top one is a Garmin G710 styled AP panel, has 14 buttons and 4 encoders and cost about $25 to build.

If anyone is interested in my 3D print files I will share them. I use breadboards integrated into my designs, so I do not have to make PCBs, but still get a nice clean assembly.

Edited to add: I will be editing this post to add some more pictures and links to everything required to build your own. They could actually be built even cheaper if you order parts on the slow boat from asia and are good at scrounging, but I will try and provide links to the amazon parts I used as well, or at least info to find the right parts if the forum forbids such links.

Your really talented- they look great.

This is fantastic. I assume each knob and switch inputs to a simconnect event via usb. I would greatly appreciate your schematics. I would also appreciate knowing the events and variables you used in simconnect.

Looks great! I’m making some controls. I’ve only gotten as far as a gear switch and indicator lights but I have big plans, lol.

Currently it uses the ‘FreeJoy’ firmware. It just sends joystick commands. The parameters are limited to what is available with the joystick config in MS2020 and there is no way to set mode LEDs or anything. All very basic. I did this so I do not have to use the VR mouse in VR, once I memorize all the controls for blind use.

There are no schematics, but I will take them apart, photograph the insides, and share the 3D files in a little while after completing some work day tasks.

Cool!

You are interfacing to simconnect someway to get readouts? That is a next step!

I don’t actually have it interfaced with MSFS yet. I did have it working with FSX via Air Manager.

Hello @noirwhal666
I am interested in making this interface. could you please send me the files for 3d printing. greetings

I am so glad to have come across your post. I have some questios and kindly ask if I may communicate with you directly? I have started a similar project emulating a GNS but I need to find direction w.r.t. controller interfacing. Many :folded_hands:
