Something changed with my performance

Hi

Ive not been having performance issues as such, but Ive always noticed from the in sim fps counter I’ve been limited by cpu.
Anyway we had that rogue update and it messed with my settings/community folder. I figured I would do a reinstall today (ms store).

Loaded into sim changed my settings to same as before, checked the in sim fps and I was getting a 80fps +, no more limited by cpu, although in the image it says limited by gpu but its in the green so no idea about that.

This was with texture resolution, clouds, fauna, pre cache resolution all on ultra, rest were on high, TLOD OLOD both at 150, and using DLSS quality, playing at 4k.
Live weather, multiplayer ON, ai/live traffic OFF.

I was not using Frame gen or that dynamic setting.

I was only flying the basic default 172 in some part of the UK, but no matter what I changed where I flew before, I was always limited by cpu. So i’m a bit miffed on what changed. Maybe the reinstall did something!

4070ti super
64gb ram

Does this information below look good, I just really don’t understand what ive managed to change to get looking what I think is good and running well, apart from the reinstall.

Must be a language difference here.

To me, ‘miffed’ means: mad, upset, angry.
Obviously you are: :slightly_smiling_face:

As you should be!

Haha, yeah miffed as in unsure.

Hi guys, have the same experience in VR (Quest 3, VD, Godlike mode), 72Hz. No more main thread limited (7800 X3D), GPU (7900 XTX) limited, but green. All these with capped 36 FPS in RTSS. If I choose ASW: Main thread limited (yellow), CPU green/yellow.

I am having the opposite problem. Stuck at 30 FPS no matter what settings I change. Limited by CPU, which is usual for an i7-9700. FPS used to be much better than 30. I can change my settings from ultra all the way to low and the FPS only changes by 3-4. Maybe I will try uninstall/reinstall. Nothing I have done changes the 30 FPS.

4070S, 32GB, 4K monitor.

Yeah, for me the reinstall was fairly quick and easy , didn’t have much in my community folder, was just a case of downloading the small file and redoing the graphical settings.

I might roll back the Nvidia driver from 572.83 to see if that is the issue. I’ll try that first.

I’m happy with 45 FPS if I can get back there.

There are four places I know of that can limit framerate:

  • nVidia Control Panel (or maybe nVidia App?) with a hard limit set in Global or App settings. When you updated to 572.83 did you do a ‘Clean Install?’

  • nVidiaProfileInspector (Global or App settings)

  • RTSS

  • Vsync

Also, are you using TAA? Try DLSS Quality - especially if you’ve updated to DLSS 4. Heck, try DLSS Performance to see how it affects your FPS.

I have the frame rate in Nvidia Control Panel set at 60 in Global. Vsync off. I’m using TAA for clarity on the G1000. I have tried DLSS on several settings and it lowered the frame rate. I didn’t do a Clean install but only installed the driver.

I rolled back to driver 572.60 with no change. Still a consistent 30 FPS. My GPU runs in the 80-90% range while my CPU runs in the 20% range. What settings most impact the CPU load, or suggestions to lower it?

That’s very strange.
For me FPS goes down with TAA, and DLSS DLAA, but I get substantially better FPS on DLSS 4 Quality, and even better with Performance.

I stick with DLSS 4 Quality, because my computer doesn’t quite have the horsepower to do native 4K Ultra TAA or DLSS DLAA. And Performance doesn’t look good enough to me.

Have you used DLSS Swapper to update to DLSS 4? It really makes a difference.

I think I read DLSS 4 is being released for
Msfs24 in an update so no need to use the DLSS swapper, I might just wait myself.

Theses different graphics settings don’t make much difference to FPS for me. I do have the latest DLSS file. I would think the i7-9700 is the bottleneck for my system. However, I used to get much better performance with this system than 30 FPS. Don’t know what has changed.

What’s puzzling is that adjusting your settings doesn’t seem to affect things.

Try removing the 60 FPS cap.

What is ASW?

Asynchronous Spacewarp. It has to do with VR.

That is the puzzling part for sure. I did discover something today. I have the Comm window open on a small 15" display next to my 4K monitor. If I close the comm window it pops up on the MSFS24 display and the frame rate goes up 50% from 30 to 45 and the CPU goes from 32 MS to 20 MS. Given what and where I fly, 45 FPS is satisfactory to me. And since the ATC is a joke anyway, I could fly quite well like this. I’m not sure how to move the Comm/ATC window to my iPad but that may work without the FPS drop.

I don’t use VR at all. And, I have tried removing the 60 FPS cap everywhere it is. No change from that.

Ahhhh…

I’m not well-versed in that, but I remember reading that the sim’s built-in panel popout system was an FPS killer when the monitor was connected to the same GPU the sim was running on.

I tried Spacedesk and Popout Panel Manager a while ago, putting the G1000 MFD and PFD panels on two iPads, connected with WiFi. I also saw a performance hit, though not quite as drastic as yours. I seem to recall that people using Spacedesk on a tablet connected via USB didn’t have much of an FPS drop.

Maybe search for threads with Spacedesk for more info on that.
I think you’re on the right track.
