I hope the peace will return soon despite what we hear now.
If I’m not mistaken, the cooperation between Russians and Ukrainians gave us CaptainSim back in FSX and P3D days, so who knows.
It would be great if they got together and created what they used to manufacture together in Soviet times - antonovs, tupolevs, sukhois O’d live to see SSJ100 in the sim
My understanding of the Tu-134 is such that the main dev actually died, and that’s why it wasn’t released. Perhaps I’m mistaken.
Overall there is another issue impacting some, in that Russian devs can’t exactly sell on the MSFS marketplace or any “western” site like Simmarket due to the financial sanctions against most Russian banks.
For other devs that may have background in Soviet aircraft (so, Ukrainians, Poles, etc) I think ROI concerns remain. More people are familiar with western fare than eastern, and that remains today, the iron curtain that fell in the early 90s still seems to propagate a block in awareness and interest in these aircraft, while current global events and politics aren’t helping with perceptions either.
Cockspur and other devs have every right to operate in silence, and I’ve seen other “Western” devs with an equally abhorrent attitude towards customers too. I understand the desire for a basic “is it on the agenda” answer though, especially as we have devs who “sit” on aircraft for years in an effort to dissuade others from making them.
Deimos just released a Mig 3 in the Marketplace completely out of the blue.
Graphics look really nice, sounds are quite poor and the aircraft is probably quite basic.
Not sure what made him do a Mig-3 an aircraft that is not very popular but let’s add it to the list.
Pushing this to the top just to give a current overview of the Eastern European/Russian/Soviet aircraft picture at least for MSFS2020. While I don’t use 2024 yet, I’ll note if I know the dev says it’s supported. The list may include aircraft in development for either sim too. In no particular order:
Cera Simulations - Mil Mi-17V-5: 2020 only.
Axonos - Mil Mi-2: In Development. 2024 only. Development currently paused I believe due to unspecific state of the sim / SDK challenges.
Deimos - Mikoyan Gurevich MiG-3: 2020 only so far I believe but will be updated.
Deimos - Yakovlev Yak 9: same as MiG-3 situation.
A1R - Shavrov Sh-2: 2020 only but maybe works with both due to simplicity.
ATSimulations/Asobo - Antonov An-2: Made for 2020 but may work for both.
Headwind Simulations - Sukhoi SSJ: 2020.
TouchingCloud - Kamov Ka-10: 2020
GKS/Aviasim - Mikoyan Gurevich MiG-21bis: 2020 only to be updated.
GKS/Aviasim - Mikoyan Gurevich MiG-25: 2020 to be updated.
GKS/Aviasim: Project in dev nearly complete and could be “eastern”.
PWDT/LHSimulations - Zlin Z-142: 2020 but allegedly works fine in 2024.
Bear Studios - MiG-15bis and MiG-15UTI: Two products, both sims at least on paper.
Bear Studios - MiG-17: In Development
IndiaFoxtecho - Sukhoi Su-31: 2020
DCDesigns - Sukhoi Su-27: 2020
Deimos - Sukhoi Su-27: 2020
Deimos - MiG-29: 2020 currently undergoing significant updates.
Inibuilds - Antonov An-225: both sims?
Nemeth Designs - Yakovlev Yak-18T: 2020
Virtavia - Yakovlev Yak-52: 2020
Beekay - Mil Mi-8: 2020
Beekay - Kamov Ka-26: 2020
Viksen - Ilyushin Il-103: 2020, freeware on Flightsim.to. (Also get the improvement mod for it at same site)
Heaven Designs - Sukhoi Su-26: 2020
Probably missing a few and didn’t include MScenery.
Other than a possible qualifying development by GKS as well as by Bear Studios I don’t know of others in dev, or at least in active not vaporware dev.
Update:
The Deimos Yak 9 is available in MSFS 2024, works very well, sounds are really nice.
Update:
The Nemeth Designs Yak-18T has a free upgrade to MSFS 2024, it includes walk-around mode and seems improved from the 2020 version.
Something exciting:
There is an “Ablomis” T154 being developed, with updates on Patreon.
https://www.patreon.com/ablomis
There’s a Yak-40 in active development, internal beta was just released. Come over and help the author with testing
There was also a mention of an upcoming announcement of LET-410 series of aircraft but I think it’s vaporware.
Both aircraft are close to my heart along with the Tu-154. Ablomis’s Tushka as well as BACc’s Yak-40 have freeware level textures but alas, soviet aircraft are flown almost exclusively by connoisseurs among simmers
