I bought MSFS two days ago on Steam (Game of the Year Edition).
Noticed a lag as soon as I started the game (was lagging on the Xbox Game Studios, Asobo Studio, blackshark.ai splash screens). Didn’t think too much of it and proceeded to let the game download overnight. Yesterday, I tried launching the game and everything was unusably slow. Signed into my Microsoft account but then it took ~20 minutes for the blue update bar to finish. Once the menu launched, that was also extremely slow (I’m guessing 5FPS on the main menu). Took 30 seconds for it to recognize my selection of the “Discovery Flight” option but then it did not get past the screen asking me to select which discovery flight to do.
Uninstalled the game (all ~130GB of it including anything in the Community folder) and tried reinstalling. Since the lag is very noticeable before it even gets to the massive download, I’m wondering if something is up with the Steam launcher.
I am not using Developer Mode (being as I haven’t been able to actually play the game).
I am using a Lenovo Legion 5 laptop with the following specs:
- 16GB RAM
- AMD Ryzen 7 4800 H Processor
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
So, while it’s not a high-end gaming PC, it should be able to run MSFS just fine. I am able to run other games (AC Valhalla, RDR2, Jurassic World, etc.) without any issues.
I have ~342GB free on my SSD. I did verify that I have the latest NVIDIA driver. When it’s running, none of my hardware is maxing out (see attached photo).
Totally baffled about why this software is being so troublesome from the get-go.
Any help that can be provided would be extremely appreciated. Thank you!
