Steam VR for Pico 4 FSVR?

Some time since last comment. Updated FS, Nvidia Drivers, Pico 4, and Virtual Desktop. Why does the Pico 4 VR need to have Steam VR to run FSVR? When in Virtual Desktop I do not start Steam VR, but after starting FS and then selecting VR mode, Steam VR automatically starts as well? This was not the case with my Quest 2, which I have now sold. The VR performance is very good, the cockpit views are very sharp and clear, and reasonable frame rates. Much improved compared to my previous Quest 2. Also, I don’t get the lost connection errors and CTDs since I changed from Sky/BT broadband to a much faster 1gig Virgin Media broadband.

Probably has something to do with the handling of OpenXR. OpenXR can be handled by a variety of tools, like WMR, Steam, Oculus drivers, etc. It can be that Pico drivers have OpenXR handling. If not, you’ll indeed need Steam VR.

Thanks for the info. I did think that the Pico 4 drivers does not support Open XR, like most other VRs. Maybe they will later. However, most VR headsets are sold for their stand alone games and app use, and in this they excel. PC use is not a primary reason for their sales. All the best.

I’d say 50-50. Headsets like the HP G2, HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift series are solely meant to be connected to a PC. There is a selection of stand-alone VR headsets, but certainly not all of them.

If you use VD, why don’t you select VDXR?
It will skip SteamVR…

Thanks for reply. What is WMR?

Thanks for reply. The same as WMR, what is VDXR? I assume the VD stands for Virtual Desktop which I do use, obviously. And FSVR only starts with Steam VR active. The Quest 3 uses different drivers.

Yes, VD is Virtual Desktop.
VDXR is the OpenXR runtime. You need to select in the Virtual Desktop streamer.
If steamVR starts, then close it, you don’t need it when using VDXR…

Edit: Also I have my SteamVR settings like this
