Sticky Mouse in VR - anyone have a resolution?

A problem I’ve had since day one in MSFS 2024 and slightly better in 2020 is the sticky mouse issue in VR. Ie the mouse cursor seems to become extremely laggy as if its sticking to things its going across on the screen. Neither legacy or locked works and has the same behavior. Has anyone found a workaround for this? Its really becoming a deal breaker for me flying in 2024.

Do you use rudder pedals? I’ve found if you have any rudder input (even a bit off zero) it does that. Since getting my new Virpil pedals that have very precise operation and perfect deadzone (even with zero deadzone set in game) it has been fine. My old Logitech pedals even when not touching them probably had noise on the axis thus causing the mouse to do that. Try adding a deadzone in game perhaps if this is likely to be your situation?

Hi @DarthMelbius ,

As mentioned, a noisy controller (of any sort) can cause the mouse to seemingly ‘gum up’. I’ve had this problem as well. A good way to check this is with the Windows USB game controller panel: it’ll show exactly how ‘clean’ the controller’s outputs are.

I think its more than just a controller being noisy. If I switch back and forth between VR and Monitor in VR its sticky and on Monitor is fluid and no problem. So it appears there is something in the very unoptimised VR implementation causing this.

I’ve been having this problem really frequently and intensely lately. Don’t suppose you’ve found a fix or similar?

I used to get it so rarely it was basically a non-issue, now it can get quite extreme and really annoying.

For me too it has become worse the last few weeks and I’ve not found a workaround. Again this only happens in VR. I’ve mapped a button to display the control bar menu thing on and off and toggling that sometimes fixes it for a while. But its very frustrating and I often just exit out of a flight and mow the lawn or something out of frustration.

I have the same issue. It will go away after some time. Not sure why “noisy” inputs has anything to do with it. It doesn’t happen outside of VR and it doesn’t happen with other VR games. I don’t have any of my controls mapped to the cursor. It’s also very inconsistent. It doesn’t happen very often and will usually clear up after several minutes. It did happen more often with past versions of 2024 and it happened in 2020 as well.

Strange that it seems to be intensifying recently, with seemingly no updates in between. I don’t quite buy the “controller noise input” theory either. If that were the reason, surely that would mean the mouse would also stick every time I turn my yoke, or do anything else with controls?

I understand everyone’s skepticism, but my experience has also been that the jittery input from the rudder pedals causes the mouse pointer to become ‘sticky’. I have also noticed it a bit more lately. However, if I jostle the pedals just a little bit the mouse becomes ‘unstuck’. Still an issue, but this has been a reliable workaround for me.

FYI - in VR using a Quest 3

I had this bad in 2020 so added a small Deadzone to all my controller inputs (rudder/hotas/yoke) and it helped the issue but didn’t fully cure it, it still happens in 2024 and I can only think it’s got to be a coding conflict.

Historically Asobo have struggled with a lot of Mouse related issues over the years, especially when it comes to VR usage, my only hope is that they take a deeper look into their code to eradicate not only this issue but other “simple” ones (like the mouse losing focus when MSFS2024 is in windowed mode on the desktop). After all the Mouse is the most basic thing to code for in Windows/Games, so it’s annoying that obvious issues persist for years.

So when you look at the pedals (or other devices in theory) in Windows USB Game Controllers app, do you see it jittering? Because I don’t.
