Forward: I know that 60 FPS is a silly goal…my system can run a solid 30 with no problems at all with everything on Ultra…but…60 just feels soooooo good.
I’m curious about overclocking. Currently running an i7-10700K at 5.3Ghz and solid as a rock. It’s on an MSI Z490 Gaming Plus MOBO, with an EVGA 360 AIO cooler. HT is off, and it runs very well. Temps never get above 65C and average around 54-55C. The weird thing is, I’ll find myself CPU bound in situations where I wasn’t before with a 4790 at 4.7Ghz.
My question is, would a Stock 10700 run MSFS better than having an overclock? I could just revert to a standard clock to find out, but overclocking was a pain, and I’d rather just leave it as is unless the performance gains would be worth it.
Although, I’m primarily GPU bound with an MSI RTX 2070 Super Trio. It’s a great card since I bricked my Titan XP trying to clean it The one thing I love about the card is it is quuiiieeeetttttt. It also runs very cool, doesn’t get above 67C under load, and typically stays around 55C However, I’m constantly GPU bound, and can rarely get above 60 FPS, typically in the 40’s, even in a sparsely populated area. When I lower the resolution, the FPS go up, but my current resolution of 3440x1440 looks really good. Compromises, compromises. Running an overclock through Afterburner does see pretty significant gains. Stock is about 8-10FPS lower than overclocked. I saw a video on Reddit where a guy had a 3080 underclocked and it was outperforming the standard factory settings. A 2070 is obviously no 3080, but it piqued my interest.
LOD Terrain is on 3.5
I’d appreciate any insight. Thanks.
