Yup. (SU8b2) Sherburn to Manchester in the Kodiak quickly became Sherburn to Leeds after a few full speed stalls and then manual approach as ILS failed. Was actually quite exciting, I had no idea there was a real world storm going on.
(I don’t live in UK any more but they were my local airports).
There doesn’t seem to be any gusts in the sim. Flying into Heathrow during the peak of the storm and I had a steady 50mph+ headwind with no variation. Comfortable landing if you use an airliner.
Its been a long time since gusts at ground level worked (at least with live weather) - not sure when it broke but hasn’t been fixed. I am pretty sure its on the radar to be addressed (Maybe in SU8) but I dont have that for sure in front of me right now…
To be fair I guess you’re not normally going to notice it unless there is a weather event you are aware of. Probably why its down the priority list somewhere.
So you can take off and fly backwards in a Cub easily then?
There was a story printed in a flying magazine 20 years ago about a guy taking his girlfriend back home somewhere in NY. Flying West to East taking her home with a tailwind. Then trying to fly back into the headwind at altitude heading back home. He was being blown out to sea at altitude. He reduced altitude and was able to make headway slowly.
Such a shame to hear the wind gusts in live weather are not working any better in SU 8 beta…it would make landing in storms like last week much more interesting…
