Strange colors popping Bing data graphics Isle of Man

I think Orkney might have been fixed with the UK & Ireland update and with the IOM not belonging to either it probably means it was not in somebody’s job description.

A shame really while it’s a beautiful island and with a separate gliding school in the North and an unofficial dirt airstrip near Douglas it’s a great location for slow flyers and microlights.

This has been the same for IOM since launch I believe ;-(

I believe this is due to how the AI has taken the satellite images for the Isle of Man. There is something strange going on with the images if you zoom in and out on a satellite image. I got this on my first attempt. To get google maps to do this a second time took some manipulation of settings off and on and zoom in and out.

I thought my card was broken when I first spotted it the texture issue in game. After update checks and finding it still there I recorded it. You can even see the where it stops around mid point on the island. It only happens when scenery is close up. Flying high alleviates the problem.

Apparently I cannot add hyperlinks. If anyone wants to see this video then send me a PM. If suggesting this breaks forum rules then by all means redact this part.

It’s the paper folds in the map :upside_down_face:

Anyway FS2020 uses Bing and there the colors change completely between sat and aerial level view. The purple ‘mountains’ are at the aerial level.

I put the two levels together (blown up the sat image to match)

Aerial view on the right, the closer you get, the game switches to aerial images. The difference is too great to blend and you end up with mismatched tiles.

Flying high you only see the sat images.

Surely this is the dastardly work of the Manx fairies, I can only assume the Bing satellite forgot to greet them as it passed over their bridge.

Or pay the troll

I thought this deserves another visit.

Harking back to the Isle of Man lightshow which has been merged with this thread I have been dwelling on what Seb said about there actually being several more LOD layers than used in the sim and I am toying with the idea of simply removing the offending layer and duplicating one of the others in it’s place. The beauty of it being an island is that there should be no or few transitions to worry about.

I would attempt this myself in the SDK but have not a clue how to go about it so any suggestions would be welcome, maybe it’s not as difficult as it seems … I’m from the island so if you feel my pain then please give a vote at the top.

Love this!!

I have the same issue over isle of man too

I saw the problem of isle of Man too.
It occurs with a community folder full or empty.
Pink, dark green and chestnuts colors.
The problem follows the plane or drone.
Sim version: 1.20.6.0.

No mod responsible, this is purely satellite imagery LOD layers. It would seem that the island got overlooked for the UK and Ireland world update.

Totally agree, something is still really very wrong with the Isle of Man.

Some really bizarre terrain textures including the unfurling pink tiles as you move around.

I’m from the island and yes it is irksome as I fly to and from EGNS a lot. … However I have learned to ignore it, it doesnt affect performance and I certainly wouldn’t want Asobo’s coders spending time on this when there are far more important bugs that still need fixing.

I just purchased the EGNS airport from the Marketplace after fully updating everything to World Update 8 and was looking forward to a flight to a new place in the world to which I’d never been.

I made a flight from EGGP Liverpool to EGNS. I can report that this issue has NOT been resolved and still exists. I witnessed both the magenta and lime green tile loading issues, depending on direction of travel and location over the scenery. Very disappointing (and unexpected) first experience with this location and scenery

.

I thought that it might be a new issue with the World Update 8 release since I had never experienced this before, but I see that it had already reported prior to that.

I am running with HDR10 enabled, and wondered if this was an HDR10 related artifact, since I see similar issues with screen captures when HDR10 is enabled (colors always totally washed out)

I was flying the Carenado Cessna Skymaster 337H.

Just as a reminder… issues at Isle of Man were not solved !

Altitude dependent… when increasing distance, it is changing, altitude shown left above (Developer-camera)

My idea about the cause of this: it seems that some of the texture layers (mip-map levels) contain evening light images instead of day light images. This is seen in many other places too, but on the Isle of Man, it is very prominent and resilient ! Complaints about Isle of Man ground textures have been there from 2020.

Coords of above spot:

Lat 54.1438 Long -4.6993

Remarkable: Google Earth shows similar issues, in the sea nearby !

Keeping this alive as I’ve just done a circuit of the island and was dismayed this still hasn’t been addressed!

I could name a few more places on earth … …

@GentlestCurve98 the world is big… the purpose of complaints is to pinpoint them.

You’ve seen other places ?

Pick the worst one you know.

Put your coords and images, open a new topic in scenery bugs. This topic is about Isle of Man.

Blah… I reported about the Isle of Man 1.5 years ago and had a massive exchange with @DensestSnail693 ( What actually happened to him?) about it. Just like about the coast of Schleswig Holstein, Mecklenburg, Denmark etc… Just wanted to expand your knowledge

Those purple tiles look more like false colour/ IR mapping has been used.
