I am new to VR and this forum. I have a Quest 2. I am having a strange problem with MSFS 2020 which I purchased from the Microsoft store.
After weeks of trying I have finally managed to fly in VR. However this is only possible if I choose a preset flight such as Flight training or a challenge.
If I choose a flight and aircraft from the world map and click Fly my headset goes to the Oculus games store. I hope someone can help solve this. I am completely stuck.
Try this:
- load up the Oculus software but don’t put on your helmet
- load up FS
- select your airport, flight plan etc in 2D
- press the “fly” button
- set up your aircraft (baro etc) in 2D
- put on your helmet and click on the “oculus link” tab
At this stage you should see the curved bar at the bottom of the screen and one of the areas to click on is the one that says “virtual desktop”. When you click that you should have FS running on a screen in front of you but in 2D.
Now press CTRL+TAB and enter VR where it should now work. I am assuming you’re using the link cable here.
Finally I suggest you use a non-descript out of the way airport and light GA plane such as the Cessna or the Cub. Just to make sure the heavier graphics of more complex airport sceneries and aeroplanes are not swamping your system.
Let us know how you get on!
Had this issue once where everything worked great in SteamVR and accidentally allowed Oculus Link to pair when i connected a USB-C cable to xfer files.
This fixed it for me. Wierd but you have to change the Oculus Home link to run as admisistrator. This stopped the Oculus program from popping up everytime I switched to VR mode in MSFS2020
I,ve followed your advice but when I click on virtual desktop and then Ctrl + Tab I get the double images on the desktop and in the headset but in a 2D screen with rapid flickering. I do not know where to go from here. Clicking virtual desktop does display the desktop in the headset with the curved bar but in 2D.
It is possible your SteamVr is not point to use the its version but instead somehow the oculus Xr got changed in the registry.
Try this to change it back:
Worse case is modifying the registry to change it to Steam.
- Right-click on your Start menu and select Run .
- Type in “regedit ” (without quotations) and hit Enter. This will launch the Registry Editor.
- Locate the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR\1
- For ActiveRuntime change its value to the one that matches your platform (note: default path is shown below), assuming drive C:
For Oculus Link use
C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\oculus_openxr_64.json
For Steam
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\steamxr_win64.json
I’ve followed your advice but when I click on virtual desktop and then Ctrl + Tab I get the double images on the desktop and in the headset but in a 2D screen with rapid flickering. I do not know where to go from here.
Here is what I do and it works for me. Start MSFS2020 first. Change it to window mode so you can minimize it. Then start VD, then manually start SteamVR with the headset on. Then bring back up the MSFS2020 window then do CTRL+TAB
Also, in VD use H.264 for the preferred codec.
I am using the Microsoft Store version with the link cable.
