Stream or download to computer? How much better is it if I download city updates?

Is it worth downloading city updates or aircraft to computer, for example? How much faster or better will photogrammetry be, for example? What is the noticeable difference, if any.

If you have a good connection, you probably won’t much notice any difference.

Hi @Gergo0106 ,

Thank you for your post! Your topic has been moved to a sub-category of the User Support Hub

The General Discussion category is meant for discussions that fall outside of our other sub-categories.

If you would like other users to help you with an issue you are experiencing in the sim, consider these User Support Hub categories for your future post:

Photogrammetry is never downloaded but always streamed. So no difference.

You can download only a few components. For example, the Basic objects like vehicles, Buildings and animals. Additionally, the handcrafted airports and the planes from the simulator. But not more. Photogrammetry as well as cities or ground textures will always be streamed.

On the other hand, installing content locally will increase the start time of the simulator, it will be more or less doubled. If the local content is outdated, graphical issues can occur, and it is updated quite often, so you have to download a lot of data in order to keep your local content up to date.

And there is an alternative: Having a large Rolling cache causes the content to be stored there, without slowing down the boot process and without having to take care about keeping the content updated. In case, there is new content, it is updated automatically.

So there has to be a very good reason to download and store content locally. From my point of view, it makes only sense, if you have a real slow internet connection and only for objects you use very often. And even then a large Rolling Cache is the better alternative from my point of view.
