Flight yesterday, after departure from a very busy non-towered airport with big flight school. I want to get a flight following. Very hot and humid, plane bouncing like a ping pong ball, a student pilot coming out of training area flying right at my nose, i have to dodge. Then ATC tells me they can’t hear me or understand my calls. COM acted bad rest of flight. Looks like I’m looking at another expensive repair this summer. Here is a stressful 10 minutes. I handled everything best I could.
Any idea what’s up with your radio? The Rx seems fine. I went back and watched your ammeter but that looked okay from what I could see in the video.
2nd Approach controller did not seem to have any issues hearing you.
Yeah so I tested with some other aircraft on the ground, they all said they could hear me but its quiet. Also that static noise that keeps happening, I’m thinking its something to do with antenna or possibly the auto squelch built into the KX-155 has gone bad. I talked to an avionics shop last week. Plane is going in for a whole new radio. Getting the Garmin GTR 255 installed, all wires and antenna replaced, and getting the ADF radio and needle removed. About two weeks of work, but I think its time to bite the bullet and replace the 42 year old radio.
