Possible Fix…
I was stuck on the “Customize Identity” screen and I disabled these programs and it then went straight in OK…

Possibly is an issue on my PC with Aida64 as I use the sensor panel and it has caused issues on other games

Soon as I used my free vpn I was in no problem so it`s servers no argument. However setting up the controls is a nightmare, nothing like 2020.
Without having done anything special except restart the Sim, I can now pretty consistently get all the way through to trying free flight, but so far its crashed to desktop in the world map every time. I’m giving it a rest for a while.
I’ve just had a smooth and delightful MSFS2020 flight around some great new scenery I’ve just bought, feel much better.
I’ve just tried running 2024 and it’s offered me 2024 Add-on Support package as a free download. Not had this before! It’s a 3 gig program.
I too am stuck on customise Identity page and Gave up after sitting on that page for 30 mins.PC Steam version Aviator edition here. £200 for a spinny wheel simulator? to say I am not impressed would be a tad understated. Especially as the amount of time I have already logged trying to get into the sim means I wont be able to refund on Steam! I’ve been trying to get into this sim since 4pm Last night, so I am off to bed for a rest now.
5:30am EST. Got past the Identity screen for the first time and loaded a flight.
Using the -fastlaunch option the sim launched in just under 2 minutes.
How long did you wait at that annoying screen???

I was stuck on this screen multiple times. I decided to try a VPN to a US endpoint. This didn’t improve things. But, when I disconnected the VPN while on the customise screen and my network dropped out for a second or so, suddenly I was through into the customiser.
I suspect that if the server request is actively dropped versus just pending, it might give up on whatever it’s trying to do and move on.
Honestly, though, having gotten into the game I’m no happier. Immediate ‘bandwidth too low’ messages just on the world map. And the screenshots of thoroughly broken stuff from others put me off even bothering now. This sim is in a worse state than 2020 was at launch, even without the infrastructure issues. And with everything streamed (and if there’s supposed to be a way to install these packages locally, which I understood there was, I can’t find it) it means things like your cockpit textures can be bad or missing while they load in from the over-stressed servers. That was never a thing before.
Sorry to have to say it, but this launch has been flubbed and there’s no taking that back. Can things improve? Sure, and they will. But no-one’s going to forget this fiasco any time soon.

If so, the last thing before I went to bed last night was a CTD when I was selecting my pilot avatar. This morning it finished the setup as fast as I could click on the buttones, then breezed right through to the Start button, and the flight loaded as expected.
There’s still a lot to work on, but that issue (for me at least) appears to have been resolved.
For those of us in the UK with the issue, what ISP are you on? wondering if it may be an ISP issue. I’m on Virgin Media
