SU2 Beta General Feedback

I’m on from 1900udt till like 1000udt often and my performance fluctuates throughout the day definitely server imo as I’m often getting better performance when my internet at home is the most busy (flatmates home and using devices streaming)

Best performance seems to be from about now till about 11am for me 2300udt then I get another good burst in my evening about 8pm so 0800udt till I jump off

Taken today on approach into RSW. When the sim works on all cylinders, it truly is a thing of beauty.

General Aviation Simulator 2024 works also very well on my side…

I know rolling cache size is a bit of a head scratcher, but what’s the general cache size you lot go for? As much as possible or default 16gb. I’m in the beta and have been using 64gb.
Has anyone noticed any difference between default and higher cache size?
Can’t say I do.

I dont. Mainly because im not in one area long enough to use the benefits of rolling cache. Why keep Cincinnati cached, when i probably wont be back there in 2 years. It will be overwritten anyway.

My MSFS2024 SU2 Beta Xbox experience

After install, first run, Game loading time: Much slower on the first run

Route: LIPZ - LSZH

Aircraft: A320 Neo V2 IniBuilds - Swiss Livery

Scenery:
LIPZ MS2024 compatible and updated
LSZH MS2020 Version compatible with MSFS2024

Sequence of the events (First Run)

  • Game loaded successfully
  • Selected and configured aircraft
  • Picked departure location airport and gate
  • Picked arrival location airport and gate
  • selected live weather mode
  • selected AI offline mode
  • selected multiplayer offline mode
  • loaded EFB
  • FAILURE: EFB did not respond to clicks on any icons. Attempted turning EFB OFF then ON a couple of times no change, unresponsive.
  • Proceeded with loading the flight - it took much longer load time on first run compared on SU1
  • Flight loaded but noticed extreme stutter at the beginning when chocks and engine covers needed removing. It corrected itself in approx 10 sec.
  • entered cockpit (Cold and Dark) - graphic and motion seemed ok same as SU1
  • Successfully Turned on the electronics: EXT PWR. Batteries, Oxygen, GND CTL, EVAC CAPT, ADIRS 1,2,3, Displays initialised, No Smoking signs ON, Emergency Exit Lights ARM, Tested the Fire Suppression System Alarms (APU, ENG1. ENG2), APU start, Radios ON
  • Checked Thrustmaster TCA quadrant is operational (it operated correctly Reverse, IDLE, CLB, MCT, TO/GA)
  • DETERIORATED PERFORMANCE: Proceeded with using A320 in-built EFB. Connected the gate, Luggage and Catering truck, Loaded aircraft. At this point I noticed cursor stutter several times and the screen froze for about 2 seconds. My heart sank but it came back. Huh close call.
  • Still in the in-built A320 EFB, checked Departure airport METER
  • set all three barometers.
  • By this time ADIRS completed its calibration
  • APU started, switched off EXT power and enabled APU bleed
  • FAILURE: At this point, attempted using MS2024 EFB. The EFB loaded, however it was not operational, unable to use any of the buttons/ functions (e.g clicked on Flight planner and waited up to one minute but it didn’t load).
  • Decided to end the flight, shut down the game, restart Xbox X and restart the game.

Sequence of the events (Second Run)

Game Loading time is much quicker, equivalent to SU1, possible little faster.

Followed the same sequence of the events as first run.

  • FAILURE: MS2024 EFB still not operational in pre flight setup screen. It loads but not functional when clicking on any of the EFB buttons/ functions.
  • FAILURE: Attempted using MS2024 EFB while in the aircraft, however the same symptoms persisted. The EFB pop-up window loads up but it is not functional.

from this point, I continued where I stopped during the First Run

  • FMC flight plan incl. fuel and Take off VREF loaded correctly. (integration with A320 in-built EFB with FMC worked correctly)
  • Gates disconnected, Aircraft ready for push and start
  • At this point I loaded the ATC screen to see if (by some miracle) I will see an option to request IFR thinking FMC perhaps integrated into the flight. This wasn’t the case (it would be nice to integrate this feature in the future).
  • BUG DETECTED: In the ATC popup screen the scrollable options at the bottom are now much smaller than in SU1. Later on in flight I noticed there was no scroll bar in the ATC popup window.
  • At this point I realised ATC is out the door and I proceeded with pushback using A320 in-built EFB
  • BUG DETECTED: Turned on the Beacon light, however the lights are not operational (checked in external view). This bug existed earlier in the sim but started working at some point.
  • While in the external view, I panned around the Venice airfield only to be amazed by the number of B777 parked all around the apron. Please, Microsoft, Asobo, re-design the static aircraft configuration for Xbox users. As in, give us the option to turn the feature off completely :).
  • Pushback and ENG1 startup correct
  • At this point ATC kicked in and asked for Taxi clearance North Departure. Wow I didn’t expect this because I didn’t ask ATC first help.
  • ENG2 startup completed
  • Tested Primary flight controls, set flaps. IGN OFF (there is a known bug with the ignition not returning to NORM MODE using Thustmaster quadrant. It has to be placed in NORM MODE using xbox controller while in cockpit camera mode)
  • TAXI lights on and working (checked in the external mode)
  • Taxied to correct active runaway (4R) the one I selected in FMC. Typically sim always tries to send to 4L but this runaway is not operational.
  • ATC kicked in again and I received the take off clearance
  • Strobe, Take off and Landing Lights activated and working (checked in external view)
  • Take off run completed correctly
  • ATC kicked in again. It did clear me to Zurich but conversation didn’t make much sense because flight plan was not loaded. There were numerous ATC handovers and prompts along the way between different ATCs  but as expected because Flight plan was not functional.
  • BUG DETECTED: When attempting to operate altitude knob using xbox controller, from the Pilot (left) seat it does not trigger it as in it does not align. I had to pan the camera view slightly to the right or closer to the knob to be able to operate it. Same happened on the ground but corrected itself next time I reset the camera view, however symptoms persisted later in the flight.
  • Climbed to cruise altitude correctly and configured aircraft as per operational procedures.
  • IMPROVEMENT: I noticed, while taking off and performing SID over the Venice area, the graphics looked better and farther from the distance before it became blurrier. Still not anywhere near what it was in MSFS2020 before the famous SU15 upgrade. Sorry I am raving on about it. Flying over the Alps. although cloudy with some breaks in clouds I could see slightly better graphics farther away than in SU1.
  • 80 NM from Zurich ATC kicked in and notified me of the arrival.
  • BUG DETECTED: My First Officer, however decided to ask ATC for destination change to Zurich. What was she thinking, we were already advised what to do. Noooo this is the existing ATC bug and I was hoping it would be fixed in SU2. The AI ATC logic needs re-work.
  • First officer kept on exchanging requests from Zurich Centre driving me nuts arghhh  Zurich centre was also annoyed and tried cancelling IFR plan but my first officer was persistent. Hilarious
  • Commenced descent procedure
  • BUG DETECTED: Upon setting the approach parameters in the FMC, I noticed that cursor does not align correctly with the FMC buttons and I had to zoom camera closer. These are the same symptoms as altitude knob bug I mentioned earlier. It does feel that this is persistent symptom when operating any buttons or knobs (hit and miss mostly miss)
  • Approach was fine, ILS worked correctly, GPWS call-outs worked ok.
  • BUG DETECTED: When autopilot is disconnected (at 1000 ft for manual landing), the audible warning comes on and warning sign illuminates (as expected). It is possible to turn off the warning button, however the audible warning continues on and the only way to stop it is to go into external camera view then back into cockpit. This has been bug since MS2020 on IniBuilds A320.
  • Taxied to gate, gate connected correctly, luggage and catering worked ok using A320 in-built EFB functions.

Overall rating and experience

Stability: 8/10
Graphics: 7.5/10
System functionality: 6/10 (EFB and flight planning not working)
Game Play Feel: 7/10 (ATC logic needs rework and static aircraft is completely broken)

Appreciation:
You people at Asobo, Microsoft and all other partners are doing an amazing job!!
Thank you!
We often criticise your work, but look where the flight sim is now compared to MSFS1995!!!

I am not ready to go over to MSFS2024, because MSFS2020 has much better overall performance. I fly sometimes with the new sim and that’s mainly to see how far it is on it’s development. The rest of the time i enjoy flying in MSFS2020.

Each their own. I really enjoy 2024. Haven’t been back to 2020 since launch. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Next build when?

Another GA flight today and wow what a difference compared to yesterdays airliner attempt! Completely smooth flight with great visuals and not one hitch or fps / graphical issue. Truly a great experience which leads me to ask, are the iniBuilds Airliners really that hard on performance? Night and day difference between them and the C172 Skyhawk. I’d expect a difference due to the large size difference in the aircraft but wow. Airliners are completely unusable for me at the moment compared to the almost perfect GA experience.

Yes, the inibuilds planes are very heavy, performance wise. I will say that they’ve gotten much better over time, and the default 737 and 747 are actually worse

As they missed the “regular” friday update, maybe they’re looking to officially release SU2 on Tuesday, warts and all.

In some ways, SU2 has been a regression, but judging by recent behaviour they don’t seem bothered about getting it to work before release.

After all, there is SU3 right behind SU2 RC.

I think, for free flight with 3rd party aircraft and airports, 24 is streets ahead. Some more bug fixes and PMDG getting their stuff out (whenever that may be) will make it very very good indeed. I uninstalled 2020 as soon as I bought 24 and don’t miss it at all.

From what I’ve seen there is a marked improvement between SU1 and SU2. It will only get better.

Per a video update PMDG posted this morning, that would be next week for the new 777-200ER, barring some unexpected last minute catastrophic bug. At least a few streamers are flying it in CTP today, and a bunch of others have already released clips and videos as well. So it’s very close. The current 77F should follow in 2-3 weeks, followed by the 77W, and then finally the 777-200LR should come after those are done.

Once the 77F is in '24, I will likely not go back to '20 for at least a month or two, depending on how long iFly takes to get their MAX working.

Is it the inbuilds airliners, or is it wasm?

a while back I made this bat file:

LVFR A321CEO Faces black avionics at certain airports (Ex: LAX, JFK) and often random phases of flight. Avionics come back after some time occasionally, other times, not at all.

Are you gonna share or keep it private?

Hey guys im not in the Beta so my question is did they improve the drawdistance for grass, bushes, rocks, small trees, and plants in fields or do they still pop in 30 meters away???
Thanks
