SU2 Beta General Feedback

I hit restart on a flight, and now 15 mins later -

These super slow load into flight times (servers?) are killing my SU2 impressions so far.

…and again, after having to use windows process manager to kill the sim, I reboot, start another flight, and restart it and infinite hang again. Sigh…

There will be no SU2 beta for me.

In fact I have held up on buying airplanes and airports. I am not testing or bug reporting anything in fact. This new trend among developers to have me the honor of testing for full price is over. Ini Builds take note .

Spent some money on DCS, forgot how incredible VR is when it works.

Too many CTDs for me.
Anything seems to trip up the sim now.
I’ll wait till the next update, which I hope fixes them.

I had to opt out, couldn’t load into any plane on any airport, at least 10 ctd’s.

Its great but I do have three concerns.

  1. is that there is alot of screen flickering when using DLSS quality objects are also black for a while and then turn blurry before they are back to normal.
  2. DLSS still has alot of ghosting when landing at night, just watch a wing view landing when using dlss quality balanced, performance.
  3. CTD are non stop I cant load any flights for some reason. I will do more testing to confirm if its just community folder compatability.
  4. One thing not invloving the update is just inibuilds airbus issues that everyone has to deal with. A321 wing shaking violently when alerons move slightly. A330 fms issues with direct to waypoint and a330-200 only right brake works.

But overall im excited to see where this will be in the next few months the LOD did get better when I had the chance to fly but it took me forever to load something before a CTD would happens.

Let us know your progress. At this point I would just go ahead and make your profile private.

Yes, from the point you joined the Beta.

POSITIVES:

  • Flight distance now showing on UI screen.
  • Toolbar now working in VR.
  • Performance seems better for some aircraft (but not all). VRAM usage does seem to be a bit lower, but I really need to investigate this further.
  • So far, I haven’t had any CTDs.
  • Being able to skip the preflight check in Cold and Dark is good, but I would have preferred a direct entry to the cockpit rather than needing to use a shortcut in the walkaround mode. (In VR, the less I need to use the keyboard the better.)

NEGATIVES

  • No EFB in VR yet.
  • Windcreen external reflections not fixed on all aircraft. The release notes are ambiguous:

Does this mean they’ve only fixed it on some planes so far, or that they think they’ve fixed it on (all) those planes showing the problem? Either way at least they’re working on it, though I haven’t so far found a plane it’s been fixed on.

  • Is it me, or is the propeller flicker worse than before? The flicker is badly simulated anyway, and not realistic.
  • I’m getting a few longer stutters. I didn’t suffer from these previously.
  • The aircraft selection page doesn’t show up after selection - I have to scroll to get it to appear.
  • On one occasion, the flight didn’t seem to load - the circle rotating endlessly. Pressing Back and then Fly Now the flight loaded immediately.
  • The exterior view seems a bit less sharp, with more twinkling especially on trees.

In total - a bit disappointing overall, with just a few useful steps forward. I think they are still catching up on their own massive list of problems they knew about at launch before they can concentrate fully on user-reported problems.

100% that this is the case, it’s just obvious. You hear people complaining about SU1 and now SU2 change logs saying “I never saw/knew these things, go fix the urgent stuff! we tell you”. They had huge known-bug lists already on launch, that is obvious. They just weren’t given the time to fix it all and were forced into launching in this state. Now they are fixing what they already know had to be fixed quickly after launch plus some of the urgent stuff from the community feedback.
But we should not be too disappointed, because all these bugs they know and fix that we did not conciously see must be fixed anyway to make sure the game runs properly.

Regarding SU2, I am really happy with it so far. For me it’s a real game changer compared to SU1.

Runs fine to me here, PC. Flying only with Cessna Longitude and no CTDs happening. Although I noticed when panning the camera from bottom to top of the plane in the cockpit, there’s little stuttering happening in the middle were before the beta update, its smooth. I am not sure if its the FSR3 issue. Before when its still FSR2, no stutter on that middle portion. Settings on both FSR2 and FSR3 are the same when I tested the gameplay. I also noticed that the cockpit display text are crisper but not the sharpness I expect for a text. Cant say if previous one is better or this text issue because previously the texts are blurry while now blurryness was reduced but not the expected quality of text I expect. Other than that I can play as before. Frame generation although only 2x works fine and makes my game smoother. Maybe when times comes that “monitoring thing” they put in this beta was removed, it would be better.

Glad to see some good positive comments. Instead of the continuous complaining. NOTHING will ever be satisfying. Looking foward to the public release of SU2.

Calm your farm mate. Its a beta. You opted in. They’ve already acknowledged a fix.

I had to opt back even if I was very up to try this, fenix planes are causing CTD :frowning:

I found the framerate to be very bad in SU2.
After using the DLSS swapper to upgrade to the newest version of DLSS and FG the performance is really good again. And even less graphical, glitches like missing/translucent fan on the 321 after engine start

I salute everyone who keeps trying this game on xbox…Im too weak:woozy_face::face_with_spiral_eyes::smirking_face: Stuttering, white dot cockpit traps, lags. Settings seems to have lottery impact on game ui…

In general SU2 runs pretty ok. But: CTD after CTD… I am trying to figure out what causes them, but it’s quite hard to detect a certain pattern. Certainly one painpoint are switches between flight and menu, but not all the time.

And: There seem to be certain areas of the world, where the sim refuses to load in. I started to experience that problem in the greater Zurich area in Switzerland and then randomly checked a few spots around the earth. Tokyo seems to be problematic as well. My communityfolder ist empty and I did a fresh install with SU2, so no thirdparty-content interfering with the core-sim. Has somebody else experienced that type of problem as well?

Is there a reason why sim rate was disabled for career mode? If that is intentional and makes it to release it will kill career mode for me and likely MSFS 2024 as a whole.

Same for me on Crystal light. Didn’t realise that this was the culprit though..
Shame as was so excited to get quad views FR.
I’m sure it will work eventually.
At least the black rectangle has gone!!!

I also have the 2020 keyboard set in 24. I had the [, <] key bound to character control for entering and leaving, since nothing else is assigned to it. I added quick preflight as shift [,<] so I only have to remember this one key. Just one more way to skin this particular cat!

Submitted bug report for CTDs which are now every flight. Prior to that, very positive. VR experience was great, EFB outside of helicopters was not working. But positive, if I can get the dxgi_error_device_hung (0x887a0006) to stop.
