SU2 Beta General Feedback

Release notes shows a lot of corrections and improvements.
It becomes difficult to read but we can refer to it when needed.

Several CDTs or definitive freezes occured during the first trials. After removing an FPS addon, it has been more stable.

I discovered changes in graphic settings.
RTX 3060 12Gb is used on my PC with TAA. I added setting for AMD FR3 2X.

During a GA flight I got smooth performances.
FPS window from SDK was giving me additionnal information.
It seems that CPU usage is better balanced between threads.
CPU memory usage seems a bit less than SU1.
No drastic change on GPU load and memory allocation.

With plane at the airport, I saw that sometimes the texture of the ground under the plane was flickering.

General impression on the software is bad. A lot of small bugs are new.
Exemples can be:
Text disappearing on ATC window.
Possible answers disappearing on ATC window.
Communication disappearing on ATC window
Reverse throttle not working on C208 with specific C208 throttle command.

The feeling is a quality decrease on SU2. It let me thinking that not enough testing/corrections is performed before Beta delivery.

At the opposite, I have the feeling that performance potential is better.
It may be an improvement since SU1 which was good on this matter.

It will be a long journey to get SU2 ready for delivery but I am confident that Asobo team will do it.

Anyway, the software is far better than MSFS 2020 for graphic performance with same hardware.

i didn’t read the whole thread, sorry. tldr
can anyone advise if the obnoxious windshield reflections are gone?

I understand that this was expected but, for those of us that fly 737, a $5m credit is inadequate. My first attempt at a flight hit a bug in skipping to take-off with a resulting damage of $17m. now I cannot repair the plane nor fly until I build sufficient credit
a long process. This means I cannot test for further bugs on the airlines for quite some time. Surely a transfer of existing credit would have made sense since this does not affect the live build anyway. I was forced to skip to take off because only one engine started and I could not get the second engine to start. This was a bug in the live build and continues in this beta. I will try opting out of the beta2 and then re-joining to see if I can restart with a $5m credit again otherwise will skip participation.

Just to test i’m flying now without Community folder above rome with 250 TLOD ad it looks amazing and with way better FPS before. It just took a lot to load (I set 10 LOD to make it load faster).

Just completed a 2 hour test flight around SBSN Santarem with the Cabri helicopter. I was blown away by the smooth performance and excellent graphic quality.

My biggest issue was the flickering vegetation on my two secondary render windows on my left and right displays, but it’s gone now and it’s great!

Do you know what your pagefile size is? If it’s small, try adjusting it to be larger and see if that helps.

It makes zero sense but MSFS 2024 kept using 100% of my virtual memory (physical + pagefile) per HWInfo64.

Increasing pagefile prevented it from using all my virtual memory.

if it could help after removing Fenix I no longer have CTD
Someone sometimes with the A350 inibuild and only someone sporadic at the initial loading of the sim
I opened a Bug regarding the frame generator x3 and x4 because it does not save the settings.. does it happen to someone (I have an rtx 5090 astral)

It always seems to be the opting out of a Beta when the wheels come off.

Can you try and find the user options .cfg file and see if you can edit it?

Xbox X. PG on. 32GB cache that I cleared at SU2 install.
Other than slower than normal time to start a free flight from the world map I had a pleasant 1.5 hour VFR flight in C172 last night. Less abrupt changes in LOD, less sudden pop up planes at airports and improved EFB. From reading here it sounds like my positive experience is uncommon.
I’ll try a larger plane and larger airports today to see if that works out differently. :crossed_fingers:

In the release notes, the walkaround bypass binding is first described thus:

It is, of course, actually just QUICK PREFLIGHT, as described further down (much, much further down):

But the erroneous version is the one you’ll come across first and once you enter TOOLS into the search bar when seeking to bind this control you’re doomed not to find it - at least until a stray brain cell prompts you to clear the search bar and just type in PREFLIGHT.

Ask me how I know.

Your xbox account lost permission to the folder where you have your rolling cache. Go ahead and add it again with full permission in security tab of the folder. It should be your firstname, lastname (email).

I am at 16384 MB. Did you have a value which worked for you? Thanks!

Man, I just did a little ChatGPT, I have 64 gigs of RAM, bump that number up to 65336 initial and 131072 maximum (recommended). Sound off to you? I am not experienced with adjusting my VM. I do appreciate the input. Off to test.

My first attempt at a flight hit a bug in skipping to take-off with a resulting damage of $17m

Wow, how big was it?

Does anyone know if the planes they buy in Beta2 for the inflated price will still be available to you in the build once Beta is complete OR will they disable the Beta 2 planes like they did the PC-12’s?
I have seen a few folks say they gave some money at the start of Beta 2 but INFLATED the prices of the planes - Is this price inflation carrying over to the build when 2 is complete? Could a Mod please answer these questions.

For my system I just made the minimum and maximum equivalent to how much RAM I already have, which was 64,000.

You’ll get varying opinions on pagefile adjustment, but MSFS 2024 is so buggy it can’t hurt to try and see if it helps.

Anyone else having issues when clicking out of them sim and then when you go back in the camera is all glitchy and jumpy?

Definitely the problem. In VR I went into settings and turned Foveated Rendering back on (sim VR graphics settings). Instant crash to desktop. Sim working very nicely in VR with this disabled though. Looking promising
.

On XBX. What blows my mind is that it’s worse than the original sim release
by quite a lot and that’s no exaggeration. I can literally count the fps with my own eyes. CTD on globe page, menus and loaded into the aircraft. Blurred textures galore.
