SU3 Beta Discussion Thread

Very nice changes have been made:

  1. New LOD system which results in less /no stuttering, sharper detail with no popping
  2. autopilots work
  3. much greater stability
  4. nearly ready for release
  5. somewhat lower FPS, possibly significant for some

Works very well for me and many others have reported similar results.

Sorry not in SU3

What do you mean? You are not in su3 beta or?

Exactly, just read the posts

Biggest improvements, imho:
-Other AC now visible at a much longer distance, even in daylight
-Same with landing gear of other AC, drawn further away.
-Contrails are now visible.
-Less popping of structures, assets etc.

All due to new LoD-curve…

Switching from 2d toVR and back creates a different View quality in VR and 2d. I see, that sometimes the buidlings are not shown in 3d anymore, the buildings in near surrounding area. the only action was switching from VR to 2D several times.

There should be 3D buidings above the Cessna on the hill.

the HW is a RTX3090 with 24GB Vram

this is the picture in VR

And in 2D

When settled after some minutes I get the following 2D

Well can you do it with su2 then? I dont care if its su2.

Hi, I would have helped if I even had a notion about what you are asking for. It is well known, I think, that I am hopeless with computers. I just like to follow how the Beta is going with respect to progress and learning many of the terms used here.

Sorry, again, I would have if I could.

Not a troll and he makes a valid point. Furthermore, I always refer to MSFS as being a sim and not a game because flights are simulated but not intended to replicate an $8,000,000 simulator.

Indeed, there are good simulations and garbage simulations.

MSFS2024 right now is a game that tries to simulate a fight simulator.
And wants the people who paid for it to make sure its a great game.

Hard disagree - there are some really well-simulated, highly complex planes in the sim: the PMDG 777 line; iFly MAX8; the Inibuilds A350 and Black Square Starship all come to mind. All are wonderfully done and require you to simulate real-world aircraft operations to operate them correctly and to their potential. There are also some really nice stock aircraft, albeit not as complex or deeply simulated (e.g., the Grumman Albatross) that are still wonderful to fly. Further, there are a number of 2020 aircraft that work in ā€˜24 even though unsupported officially: the PMDG DC-6 and 737NG line, the Milviz Corsair, the FlyingIron P-38 and F6F Hellcat, the GotFriends F4F Wildcat, the IFT/Heatblur F-14, the Beech 18 and Staggerwing, the JU-52, etc.

The sim is much like life - it is what you make of it. I spent nearly 5 hours flying yesterday across two flights in the Black Square Starship and both were near-perfect experiences, marred only by some ground texture coloration issues (discussed in posts from yesterday up-thread and in a bug report thread). But the aircraft operated perfectly in SU3, flight performance was amazing and steady, with no stutters or glitches, and I will spend at least 2-3 hours doing it again today.

Hey Folks, several posts have been removed.

Here’s a quick reminder of one of our Standard Operating Procedures on the forum:

A Pilot is a Pilot - Treat everyone in the community with respect, and seek to have positive experiences with your fellow pilots.

so, i did some tests after the last two updates. Before it was a continuous crash due to the simconnect problem.
We are more or less back to a good performance in general. GA planes are quite smooth with my 4060 ti 8gb (texture resolution = medium and the other parameters high/ultra) about 50 fps TAA to which i add dlss for greater smoothness. More or less the same performance for heavier planes like the fenix 320 and Ifly 738, even if sometimes i find framerate drops of 10/15 fps in ā€œnot difficultā€ situations (eg flying at 38000 feet no clouds) of which i can not verify the problem. Usual slowdowns in city areas or in particularly demanding airports, but i don’t know if it depends on the hardware, every machine is different and the simulations behave accordingly.
I have to say that with x-plane at maximum I have 50 fps on average with all settings at maximum, I don’t notice any drops, I know that you can’t make a comparison but I can say that with many games and various tools I have a desktop that performs at its best without being a top end machine.

Would you buy a book that requires you to finish writing it?
Or correct the grammar and spelling (proof read) it?

Writing off the problems in this game with a casual ā€œThat’s lifeā€ is not helping anyone.
But I’m glad youre having fun. Honestly.

Because I enjoy some things too, and have expressed so when I do.
And when I don’t, I express that too.
Much like life.

No, but I’ve bought plenty that were part of series that weren’t yet completed (looking at you, Robert Jordan and George R.R. Martin). Doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy what I have even though I hope for more/better eventually. It’s possible to hold two thoughts in my head.

I’m honestly sorry more people don’t enjoy what the sim has to offer. SU2 and now SU3 are finally getting closer to what the sim should have been on November 19, 2024. SU4 will hopefully continue moving things in the right direction.

But to each their own, of course.

I get this most of the time for non cached content. The mystery to me is that as you cans ee in your screenshot, the airpot buildings are all laoded in and detailled despite their distance. The runways always look like this for me when I’m not flying into a cached airport. Doesn’t matter if it’s lcoally stored or streamed, both result in this outcome. I’m surprised there aren’t more people encountering this issue.
What airport is this and is it defauolt/3rd party?, locally stored or streamed?

Anyone else got a complete freeze after start flight and zoom into aircraft on ground. Large aircraft with cold start.

This is the very sweet new Carenado T210. I have actual hours in this bird and it hands much better than a 152/172 or 182… light on the touch. I flew it through the mountains of California near where I used to do a lot of fishing and it handled just as nice.

I looked into the autopliot which seems functional but the manual is 100s of pages and I hate the Garmen APs… one reason I finally quite flying at age 60. But aside from the inherent limitations of the AP, plane flys well.

I just have to wonder, do you only play career mode? Because I can see someone having your perspective if that’s the only mode they play. Career mode definitely needs improvements.

Free flight is the best part of the simulator imo, for all the reasons @DrVenkman3876 mentioned. There is an abundance of very well simulated planes in the simulator and more to come.

That doesn’t mean it’s perfect, but what complex software is 100% bug free? Saying that’s life isn’t disregarding the bugs, its being realistic.
