Did you do a clean install, per MS’s instructions here, or just an uninstall/reinstall? If you only did the latter, do the former instead (back up your community folder first!)
K so with a 5090 this shouldn’t bring any benefits, assuming that VRAM bug doesnt escalate (a while ago I saw it eat up all 32GB and then start going into system RAM!).
It definitely should not be a problem with 5090 and 32GB VRAM, but there are some VRAM memory leaks or VRAM is not released correctly when ReBar is ON.
This worked wonders for me in both 2D and VR. Much smoother panning and view switching, without losing FPS and seemingly at no VRAM cost. What kind of sorcery is this?
MS, the ability to turn OSTPC off should be added to the option selector for this setting ie. Off → Low → Medium → High → Ultra
I have a 4080 Super 16gb and did not notice any difference in Vram usage with ReBar turned off. So I left it on
Same here! SU2 runs way better on my system. So much stutter with SU3. I’m so glad it’s still in beta!
If I have Off Screen Terrain Pre Caching on anything less than high it introduces stutters in VR when turning your head for me
Are you sure you don’t mean off-screen precache has to be less than high to avoid stutters when turning one’s head in VR. I get stutters unless I set it to low.
No, low and medium i will get stutter as stuff loads in as i turn my head. High or Ultra I don’t get those stutters
Same for me. I have a 3080. Maybe it’s a high end card problem?
Ok, so I was in here moaning massively about constant CTD’s last week. Having looked into everything a not getting anywhere I seemingly gave up. Until, I remembered maybe just maybe a Bios update for my motherboard will work? Now, don’t get me wrong I like keeping everything up to date but I hadn’t updated my MOBO Bios to the latest one which was released at the beginning of July. I now have NO issues whatsoever… I mean it has only been 3 days since updating so time will tell I suppose? Enjoy the few screenshots I had taken… If people are having issues maybe a BIOS update will help
I totally agree, but the main issue here as in every single beta is that there is ZERO communication, guidance or otherwise directly coming from Asobo. We’re all in complete darkness as to what is going on, what we’re supposed to be testing, what settings we should focus on, what areas we should focus on.
It never changes, it never will.
Then again we are assured over and over again that the forum is read and taken serious.
So the widespread change of the files should be known and taken into consideration.
The next release note can include the bugfix that cause people to change the files and the information to change it back.
Of course your point is totally valid if the forum is ignored and only telemetry is taken into consideration.
Hello, I did a test, and for me, turning “pre-caching off screen” in yhe cfg user file is quiet the same as setting it to ultra…
Smooth at taking off at CDG (which is really fine) then ok going through PG Paris city, and hitting the Vram wall just after finishing crossing Paris…
Same behaviour in Ultra or in desactivating it on cfg file.
Disabling rebar would distort our test results and should not be recommended during SU3 testing.
MSFS 2024 developers should focus on optimizing performance, rather than leaving us to tinker with low-level settings we ideally shouldn’t have to touch in the first place, like ReBar. Users shouldn’t have to rely on trial and error with hardware features to get smooth performance in a modern sim.
Also, introducing too many external variables - like replacing the original DLSS files with different versions using tools like DLSS Swapper, or manually injecting modified files - risks skewing the results and makes it harder for developers to identify real issues that need fixing before release.
I’ve spent the past few days with the 1.5.21.0 build playing in VR.
I spent alot of time testing settings and monitoring VRAM usage. Keeping the game within your VRAM limits is critical to avoid memory swapping.
This of course really depends on what aircraft and scenery is present but the game settings have an impact as well. If your VRAM is hitting its limits you should focus on reducing the number or level of detail of static objects in the sim first before settings that may affect your actual piloted aircraft.
That said, one of the main issues at the moment is how busy the Main CPU thread of the game is. It feels like performance is affected when assets are streamed in. I had a relatively smooth flight from my testing airport at YSHL to NZAA until I reached land.
I would get occasional stutters where the sound would cut out, which usually indicates heavy CPU usage. I also noticed GPU activity dropped at the same time which means the CPU is being hanged up on something, most likely when assets are loading. VRAM was not maxxed out however so it was not memory swapping.
I’m confident that Asobo is aware of the issue as Seb mentioned in the last dev livestream they were working on improving the main thread for SU4. This should help improve some of the stuttering issues.
As in other threads. I have huge performance loss on long hauls. Fine taking off, landing awful
I want to know more tweaks like these xD
Where I can find them? I always give a try to them and if I don’t like it or don’t see enough difference, revert it back
On my system it uses about 1GB less of VRAM but the performance overall is a little bit worse. So I recomend dissabling rebar only if you have a lot of VRAM problems
Su4 will be around……..November ?
