SU3 Beta Discussion Thread

I have a Generic and Airplane Preset with the same name:
VKB Gladiator NXT EVO.

If you have the same Generic and Airplane Preset name:

The program will save the file as a .xml file with your Preset name in whatever folder you want.
VKB Gladiator NXT EVO.xml
And will ask you if you want to overwrite the file with another Export to the same file name.

Note that when you Import the file you will not know which saved file is Generic or Airplane.

  1. You click the wheel on the Generic or Airplane Preset.
  2. Then click Import.

The Import program assumes that the file you select will be the Generic or Airplane depending on which Preset type you clicked to import.

So, on the save screen, I add that to the saved name.
VKB Gladiator NXT EVO - Generic
VKB Gladiator NXT EVO - Airplane

It imports the file as the Preset name, not the name on the .xml file.

You have to have it displayed on the Controls screen in order to Export or Import.

I have the same CPU as you have, 32gb of RAM and a 4080 Super. I have had several CTD’s mostly either self induced, or sometimes after installing a new driver when I first start the sim. When I start the sim again it’s fine. I will never argue which GPU is better but I will say I have been happy with mine.

I play on a 43" cheap TCL TV that has no variable refresh rate and of course is only 60hz. I totally agree limiting frame rates can eliminate some of the performance issues. The other plus is limiting frame rates helps to keep that Intel CPU run cooler. For example, when using FG my CPU runs around 75C. If I use the sims Vsync and limit my FPS to 30, my CPU runs about 65C.

Sometimes I will play on my projector screen which is about 105 inches and does 4K. However I can go up to 120hz with it in 1080p.

I too did a lot of tweaking with the settings to find out what works best for me. I have most everything set on Ultra with the exception of trees and texture resolution and they are set on high.

I will dabble with airliners. But I mostly prefer the Vision Jet and the CJ4 and like to take flights in some of the props as well. I have a few scenery addons and airports.

Overall, I have been happy with the sim since day one and I started using it with an old Alienware 15R2. I accept it will always be a work in progress and never be perfect.

Have I ever thought FS2024 is broken
no! :slightly_smiling_face:

Thought this might be helpful for anyone experimenting with upscaling options in MSFS 2024. I did some casual testing, nothing fancy, just flying over Manhattan and comparing Lossless Scaling (LS) with AMD FSR 3. In my case, FSR 3 consistently gave me around 4–6 extra FPS compared to LS.

Native FPS is about 40 (fluctuating depending on which area I am heading to). With LS, it downscales to ~33 FPS and tries to upscale to 60, but it struggles a bit and it doesn’t quite hit the full x2 upscale (should’ve been 66). Important, to try this, we need to set unlimited FPS and turn off dynamic settings so we can see how both upscaling mechanism handle our set values.

With FSR 3, no drop in FPS, and it upscales very cleanly and hits 66 FPS or higher. Visual Quality is better on FSR 3, it looks sharper, especially on things like rows of windows on buildings, less ghosting and clearer lines. Which is the opposite on LS.
I noticed FSR 3 uses slightly less VRAM, and as a result, my GPU temps were also a bit lower compared to using LS. Not really significant since I tweak ACloadline and PL 1& 2 for CPU and undervolt GPU with MSIaft.

One thing though, with FSR 3, the airport/city landmark floating indicators tend to stutter or vibrate A LOT. LS didn’t have this issue. That said, most of us don’t leave that assist overlay on anyway.

FSR also felt more responsive overall, noticeably less input delay than LS, at least to me. LS has been my go-to “poor man’s GPU” for quite a while, and it’s served me really well, so much so that I never even bothered to try FSR until recently.

But after this last test, I have to say, FSR 3 gave my sim a fresh new look. It’s definitely made me reconsider my default choice. However I still need LS in MSFS 2020 though, unless they add stock upscaling to 2020.

NOTE: I didn’t fully test this with Dynamic Settings enabled, but from a quick look, FSR gets even more aggressive with performance boosts when it’s turned on, of course, trading off some texture quality.

I doubt it, I have a 5090

Noticed a little degradation of performance, specially loading textures. I have a 800mb fiber connection and on the previous beta versions the texture load was almost instantly, now, it takes longer to load, 5-10 seconds, not only on initial loading but when panning around too, and when this happens I have a fps drop. Fingers crossed to be a server overload or something else

Go to the UserCfg.opt; in the GraphicsVR section, scroll down to Traffic and set the “PassiveAircraftQuility” to -1.

Just for the record, if any developers are reading this, there is an obvious graphics error in the wind sock at federal Airfield Moffett (NAS MoffettField) KNUQ
two for the price of one. Showed up in the last update.

In flying, isn’t redundancy a great thing? Laughing. You never know when a single wind sock might fail.

And why is the marketplace notifying me of updates to things I don’t even have installed EVERY time I launch the sim?

A post was merged into an existing topic: [1.5.21.0] SU3 Beta Survey - Performance (Xbox)

That’s a bold statement. On all of my MOBOs except the newest Asus Hero for the 285k, Resizable BAR is not enabled by default in BIOS settings.
So you’re trying to say that MSFS2024 actually wants every user to know that ReBar should be activated prior to play the game?

You should ask your motherboard manufacturer why ReBar isn’t enabled by default.

One thing I noticed about the “quality” graphics settings is they seem to only hide other aircraft. The sim still seems to keep track of them, drive them around at airports, and even flies them. I was flying the Got-Friends AS 33 around Honolulu yesterday and also had airplane sounds as invisible jets would fly by. I’d see them all on the glider’s map panel though. It’s how I know they were there even though they were otherwise invisible.

I was running FSLTL though but the quality settings seemed to affect how many planes I saw. FS aircraft were turned off. If I bumped the quality of airport traffic to ultra I could see all the planes (I think), but setting them lower and planes would disappear until I got really close to where the hidden planes were and they would reappear.

Someone said the quality settings were an amalgam of other settings and that does kind of fit with what I saw. Again it was with FSLTL but in case others are seeing the same thing. If the quality settings don’t actually remove planes it’s only a minor decrease in load to not draw them.

Will be looking more into this to sort out what’s really going on if I can and try it with just firehose and AI aircraft.

My ASUS mobo (new almost 3 years ago) had rebar off by default.

No big deal. All we have to do is turn it on if we want it on.

Unfortunately, tweaking low-level settings is where we’re at. Rebar off is the only way i keep my sim not clipping over the available vram when using 3rd party airports, traffic and airliner. Running a 9070 XT, 64 gb of ram and a 9800x3d and I only have one setting on Ultra - clouds. Everything else is between high and medium. Not even using the full potential of my GPU, I just can’t have this thing run over available vram or it stutters and kills the entire enjoyment.

So they should 1000% fix that, yes, but until they mention that they did, I’ll turn off my rebar and recommend to everyone to do the same.

On my MSI X870E Carbon WiFi (which isn’t even a year old), ReBAR was enabled by default. It was also enabled by default on other MSI motherboards I’ve owned in the past. Users on this forum have also reported that ReBAR is enabled by default on their BIOS and they only need to disable it if they choose to.

If ASUS has it disabled by default, they might have a specific reason for that. In some cases, enabling ReBAR might require activating certain settings first - otherwise, the option might not even appear.

Anyway, this thread isn’t about that, so I’ll leave it at that.

I think what IKick posted is a pretty good summary. Some shipped with it enabled and some didn’t. Your mobo is newer and mine is older. His post also mentioned combinations of settings being required but on mine it’s just a single setting. In my own testing I haven’t seen much or any difference with the settings I run but I’m just now starting to test more rigorously.

Left the beta now and I feel the performance is better on SU2, hopefully they don’t rush the release, I can wait, even if I miss some nice additions like being able to download.

One thing I noticed is flight plans don’t get automatically entered into avionics any longer after going back to SU2, at least in the A2A Comanche.
