SU3 Beta Discussion Thread

Not sure, but I feel like they could have the taxi signs render a lower lod model further out. As it is they pop in outta nowhere and it’s super noticable

My apologies if this is not appropriate in this thread.

I am looking for some guidance. When MSFS 2020 was initially released I subscribed and enjoyed the Sim for a couple of years. I stopped playing a couple of years ago, as “life” interfered and have not played since. Now I am interested in rejoining FltSim and plan on purchasing MSFS 2024 in the near future, maybe even the Sim Update 3.

I just watched a Youtube video about installing Sim Update 3 and for almost 15 minutes the originator spoke continuously about setting changes in the Sim and in Nvidia just to update. It appears unbelievably complicated! Many of the parameters that were changed, I had never heard of and would be completely confused by. It was difficult to understand how I could even buy MSFS 2024 and successfully install it and fly. It seems like I would have to take a two year university course before anything else, even though many years ago I had a Commercial license with full instrument ratings.

Can someone advise me how I can reenter the world of Flight Sim successfully? Is there any written user’s manual or anything other than trying to sort out the thousands of YouTube videos that must be out there?

Thank you.

Dick (Seattlerust)

You buy it, install it and play it.

Everyrhing else is just optimization.

You don’tsound like someone who is fiddling a lot with system settings or drivers.

So don’tworry: for you it will be like any other game.

Simplistic advice would be to set expectations low, as it is still a work in progress, but don’t be afraid to try it. I suggest maybe a Game Pass subscription as the least expensive, non-commitment way to try it for a month

Check the System requirements, but keep in mind the 2024 version was not ready when launched last November, and they have basically been scrambling to bug fix the underlying sim since then. SU3 is the latest milestone on the long road to getting it closer to what it should have been a year ago - and it seems to be performing OK for new installs, and mixed results for those updating (so that’s a long standing problem). There are still plenty of bugs, but moving in right direction, I think.

I suggest just installing and trying the default settings before trying to change things. But a few things are different:

  • During install it seems to poll your hardware and suggest a Graphics Preset (Medium, High, Ultra). Try what it suggests first.
  • When you finally get in to a flight, you will be in Walk Around Mode, the idea being you inspect the aircraft and remove covers
I was initially confused by the controls that move your view, so it’s probably worth looking at a couple of Youtube videos to get the idea, and look for the Player Character category in Settings for some keybindings. Shift C gets you in to the cockpit

  • The Control bindings are quite different, and also to how you set them, so it’s worth exploring that section of the Settings and searching for the commands you might be familiar with. For each controller (eg, Mouse, Keyboard, etc) there are 2 categories of bindings below it, “General” and “Airplanes” which are the categories of the bindings that apply to each device. When you decide you want to change a binding, you are best to start by duplicating the General and Airplanes Presets first, give them distinct names: My Keyboard General, and My Keyboard Airplanes
and then make your changes, and for both choose “Apply to all aircraft”.

Hope some of that helps as a start.

maybe Fenix? hmmm? I’m doing another fresh install so we shall see.

Even worse I personally consider most of what involves playing around with “Nvidia Profile Inspector” being snake oil nowadays.

Most of the times at least on my system cleaning cache locations after an update is enough - this way I force old files which were used pre update to be gone. If I don’t do that the sim will overwrite the files by time and performance will get better on its own.

No consumer software or game should force you to play around with driver settings imho, so if anything still is off after a week of usage it’s best to just report the issues you encountered over here including detailed system specs.

Thank you both. Very glad to know.

Somebody knows this ?

Wait
what? How do I use a VPN on Xbox? I’m not sure I can.

My internet is working flawlessly for downloads, MP, YouTube streaming, etc. THis is the only game that is giving me issues with performance and scenery loading.

This needs to be escalated and MS/Asobo needs to optimize the servers once and for all.

Do you need to leave the preview in Insider Hub to get the update or can you stay subscribed to the preview?

Sounds when you using headphones don’t work

Mouse when you try move camera don’t work

Ryzen 7800x3d can’t handle because of bug mainthread

list of critical bugs disqualified this product to use

Most modern home routers can be setup to use a VPN if you have one. Anything connecting to the internet through that router will be using the VPN.

Why is this board still up? Has SU3 not been released to everyone now?

If memory serves, they usually leave the beta threads open for about a week after the final release.

Because everyone here will automatically be moved to Beta SU4. It is after all the supposed self same thing as SU3 so makes no sense to leave it if you want to continue testing. MS/Asobo’s free labour force!

That didn’t help. I’m just about to get the sim back where it’s working for me. It’s always been a routine of uninstall-reinstall-load the flight and hope for the best. It usually works after 8-10 reinstalls. I’m still only flying the 172, G36, and the Corvallis 400. When I get those in a stable state, I’ll try adding another aircraft
maybe the TBM 930 or maybe one of the small jets, Honda or Cirrus. Still no desire to fly the airliners.
