Let’s not talk without knowing what we are talking about, I can talk like I do myself, in 2020 on series x, I had the 16WU and the CU installed and the offline boot was the same time, about 90 seconds, what adds time to the start of the game or directly causes it to hang is the start of the game itself at the same time as it connects to the server, the same thing happens to 2024.
Tough to compare 2020 and 2024 on this issue. This post was about 2024.
In 2024, airports and aircraft are normally streamed as needed (like at flight start) if not downloaded. Problematic for folks with so connections which is why Asobo added the ability to download.
It’s been reported by several users, that the more downloaded assets they have, the longer their boot time is. What the situation for 2020 might be, is irrelevant for the discussion of 2024.
Your point is very interesting. I added a few download items from the Marketplace and now my load time has significantly increased. I have nothing in my community folder. I only run Stock MSFS2024 with no addons.
Question: Since I have a pretty good internet download capacity, would it be prudent and speed up things to UNINSTALL and STREAM loads of things ?
If your answer is yes, please advise the main items I can uninstall that would be streamed when needed… Like aircraft, locations, world updates etc…
Keeping in mind that I do not have any locations loaded outside of the U.S. and Canada. Your ideas and comments woud be very appreciated.
When cockpits are still noticeably loading in while you are already sitting on the runway, I think it’s fair to call planes being “streamed”, even if that wasn’t the intention. And this is one of the really annoying issues that downloading the content has had for people. I saw cockpits loading in over multiple seconds even when it was a plane I had flown before, on the same day!
So the plane cache definitely had issues that are not present when the planes are downloaded.
I’ve seen this happen even with aircraft in my community folder - this is an issue with how the sim handles LODs more than anything, I believe.
