SU5.1 General Discussion

PMDG say they test their aircraft with totally clean MSFS 2024 with zero addons.

I wonder if this is the same issue with Asobo - test with no addons so they appear to be faultless. The community add all sorts of variations of 3rd party stuff so inevitably this is going to throw up problems.

I hope Asobo has test beds with tons of addons so they experience what this community does.

I usually shut off all addons right affter a new SU and reactivate after they have gotten updated post Sim update.

MS / Asobo should separate the aircraft updates from SU. it cannot be that default aircraft like the airbus or premium deluxe are uipdated only every half a year when a SU is released.

Right know on PS5, with no addons we are grounded.

To be honest: If I flood my game with Addons, I’ll have to expect issues. But i demand a working game in the vanilla state right off the dev’s compiler, with no addons installed.

I’m finding on Xbox series X that the sim performs best using addon aircraft (PMDG) with addon airports. It’s trying to use it in a vanilla state (Airbus airliners at included handcrafted airports) that it all falls apart. Needless to say, that feels extremely wrong

Performance in the ATR42/72 on SU5.1 is fantastic though I might add

They do test without addons. Many times they would say empty your community folder etc for testing. Their only concern is their product that they designed. The 3rd party addons are the 3rd party devs concern

I tend to agree with those making comments about consoles (and that, to a great extent, they ā€˜fund’ MSFS). However, I believe PC users are probably more dedicated simmers and the way 2024 has been published & developed is putting a lot of us off. After my experience of 2024, if they did release an MSFS2028, I would definitely NOT get it. Any purchase would be dependant on users’ experience - as stated on forums such as this. Despite my, expenditure on the sim (including peripherals & 3rd party addons), I find myself too frustrated with MSFS and am no longer using it. I hope to return to it, but it is just not there yet. Fingers crossed MS / Asobo sort it out.

Didnt get around to testing the new revision of 5.1 until last night because honestly i was not looking forward to it anymore. No performance difference in regards to the issues when panning the cockpit if not the same stuttering then it was worse. Added to that the usual issues of stuttering during the landing and rollout phase of flight.
Will probably just put this sim to the side until verifiable fixes happen.

Yeah, VC panning is one of the first things I check after every SU, I consider it to be immersion breaking if it has any stuttering. Just imagine if Forza had stutters like we have them… tragic

You can still play the beta version.

People will be triggerd and saying: ā€œohh but forza is a very different gameā€

Its not about the game, its about the experience.

Sure, and if you would like a much simpler experience such as Forza, you can have fewer bugs :person_shrugging:

Would be very surprised if this is the case
I mean they clearly barely test VR. Maybe slightly more since they put it out on PS5.

The amount of obvious VR bugs they’ve put out of the years literally made it seem like they do not test it though.

But to be fair, with the amount of addons and possible combinations, wh should and how could they??

Hi folks,

Once again for clarification, we have never said this. If you are participating in any of our public betas, we encourage you to test as close as possible to your ā€œnormalā€ flying conditions, including using all your regular mods and add-ons.

However, what we have always said is that if you encounter bugs, crashes, performance issues, or any other problems in the beta, you should test again with a clean install (all mods/add-ons disabled) to see if the issue still occurs. You should do this before you come to the forums to submit a bug report, complain that something is broken, or vote 1/10 in one of our feedback surveys. You should do this to determine if the problem you are encountering is with the base sim (in which case you should submit a bug report) or with one or more of your add-ons (in which case you should contact the add-on developer about the issue).

Thanks,
MSFS Team

Hi folks,

I received a request from our Production Team (who are reading the beta forums very attentively): if you’re posting about an issue you encountered that is negatively impacting your experience, please be sure to include pertinent details that we can use to attempt to reproduce and diagnose the issue, such as your platform, system specs (if on PC), and any details about the flight you were attempting such as aircraft type, airport(s), weather, traffic, any mods/add-ons you are using, etc.

As always, please use this thread for general feedback only. To report a specific bug, please post in the appropriate category of the Sim Update 5.1 Beta | MSFS 2024 subforum and be sure to complete the Bug Report template in full.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

If you are having performance issues, make sure that old add ons haven’t reenabled themselves. I’ve left and entered the beta and also uninstalled, reinstalled recently for various reasons. Somewhere along the way a whole bunch of disabled add-ons, some of which tank performance, were somehow re-enabled (not by me). Worth a sanity check if you are having issues. I’m on PC.

Funny how the sim says I have about 1,000+ hours invested, yet most of that time has been spent testing, troubleshooting, and restarting after issues. These days I often only fly for 5–10 minutes at a time before running into a bug or performance problem.

Just my two cents, but I think the development priorities should be:

  1. Stability (CTDs, freezes, black screens)
  2. Performance consistency (stutters, frame pacing)
  3. Core simulator bugs
  4. SDK and third-party compatibility
  5. New features
  6. New scenery and landmarks

Notice that scenery and landmarks are near the bottom of the list. New content is great, but it doesn’t matter much if the core simulator isn’t reliable. I’d rather see a smoother, more stable sim than another city update or landmark package.

Sure, you can argue that the scenery artists and the engineers are on different teams and work on different things. I understand that. But at the very least, the overall project priorities should reflect what many users are struggling with right now. If the current world and features aren’t performing reliably, I’d rather see more resources and attention directed toward optimization, stability, and bug fixing before expanding the simulator further.

Done a number of flights today with an install that is loaded with addons. Been pretty good on my end running maxed out aside from Terrain LOD set to 350. Also not coming across stutters or crashes.

i9-14900KF / RTX 4090 (driver 610.47) / 64GB DDR5 RAM @ 6000 / 1440p / NVMe M.2 SSD / 1 Gbps connection

That’s definitely always happening to me. I made the dreadful mistake of buying the absolute sorry state of an addon called aerotone Atc and that keeps enabling itself. I sometimes forget but soon know it has when performance tanks.

Yeah i stayed with aerotone cabin sounds and the insim normal atc. So far zero issues.
