After tonight’s first proper flight on the new MSFS 2024 SU5 hotfix beta on Xbox Series X, I wanted to share some feedback.
Flight:
Barcelona (LVFR) → Istanbul (SceneryTR Design)
Aircraft:
iniBuilds A330-300 GE
Overall, the experience was MUCH better than what I had a few days ago on the normal SU5 build.
A few days ago, I tried the exact same destination/aircraft combination twice and both flights ended badly on arrival into Istanbul:
- severe texture degradation,
- scenery not loading correctly,
- black screens,
- and one complete crash shortly after landing.
Tonight on the beta:
- no black screens,
- no crash,
- scenery loaded correctly,
- stable long taxi to gate,
- ground services, cameras and airport exploration all worked fine after arrival.
I also used sim rate x2 during cruise and switched cameras many times throughout the flight without issues.
Performance overall was surprisingly smooth, including on approach, with very limited stutters compared to previous SU5 flights.
The only important issue I still noticed:
since SU5, there seems to be a tendency for small stutters right before touchdown. I had it tonight as well. They are short, but unfortunately they happen at the worst possible moment because they can affect flare timing and landing smoothness.
Another thing:
terrain quality can still become blurry at times, especially under cloud coverage and over parts of Eastern Europe. Not sure if that is related to streaming, server-side terrain quality, or simply areas with less detailed coverage/world update data.
Still, compared to my previous attempts into Istanbul, tonight’s flight was a MASSIVE improvement.
Very encouraging first impression of the beta so far.
