Sudden spike GPU usage > fps drop

it’s quite some time now that I experience sudden fps drop (even in zero stress events like cruising clear skyes) that basically cut in half fps performance

I can shift from 60ps (using dx12 frame generation) to 15/25 without notice so to speak (no change in weather, scenery, fsltl being active before the drop)

I’ve tried dev mode to check what was going on but not being tech savy I’ve some difficult to get what’s behind the scenes

that’s one test i did (LSZH, fslt on)

  1. fps and performance were ok (doubled fps with frame gen on)

  2. uber spike in gpu usage and fps drop

system is 4070ti and Ryzen 5 7600X

This was already detected and reported during SU10 beta testing more than 1 year ago. This happens due to high VRAM usage, even if you are not yet close to your max VRAM limit. But in your case it´s clearly in the max VRAM limit.

Data swap happens to release memory, it takes several seconds to complete and as that process runs on the main thread its latency goes typically to the 40ms range (resulting in a drop to the 20 fps range). That´s it basically. I have a 4090 and I still see it, even if game does not go close to my 24GB max VRAM usage and even at random generic areas.

Will or can a better dx12 optimisation/implementation get rid of this issue or is this a “macro” technological limitation ?

Ask Asobo. All I can say is that this only happens in this game. In the other games I run on DX12 I don´t see this effect, even if they are still GPU intensive.
