Suddenly won't launch from shortcut only from within Xbox app?

In win11 I had to do a system restore, or maybe this is related to a motherboard swap, but frequently I have to use the Xbox app to launch

Has this happened to anyone else

Delete shortcut from your desktop.
After that you can create a new shortcut through the Xbox app.

Open the Xbox app - find MSFS in your library, right-click on it and choose “create desktop shortcut”.

Yea tried that also after running through the Xbox app it’ll work once but then fail again after that

Right-click on it and select run as administrator.

Yep I always do that as well. (right clicking and running as admin, setting it that way using addon linker, i typically launch from there anyway).. even recreating the shortcut doesnt help.

I was tempted to do the repair but I think that wipes out settings

Still think it’s somehow related to the motherboard swap

If you have game launcher installed in the default location
c:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Content\
you can create a new shortcut on your desktop to the flightsimulator.exe file located in the Content folder.
// Right-click on flightsimulator.exe and select send to > desktop.

After creating the new shortcut, you’ll need to configure a few settings:

  1. Right-click the new shortcut and select “Properties.”
  2. Go to the “Shortcut” tab and click the “Advanced” button.
  3. Check the box next to “Run as administrator,” then click “OK” and “Apply.”
  4. Next, go to the “Compatibility” tab.
  5. Check the box for “Run this program as an administrator” and also check “Disable fullscreen optimizations.”
  6. Confirm the changes by clicking “Apply.”

You might ask “Hey, what about the icon for the new shortcut?”

No worries, I’ve included an icon for you.
Download it and save it as msfs_logo.ico. It’s important that the file extension is .ico - not .jpg, .png or anything else.

// After downloading, please change the file extension from .jpg to .ico

Once you have the icon saved:

  1. Right-click the shortcut and select “Properties.”

  2. Go to the “Shortcut” tab and click “Change Icon.”

  3. In the new window, just click “OK.”

  4. In the “Change Icon” window, click “Browse” and locate the msfslogo.ico file.

  5. Select the file, then click “Open” > “OK” > “Apply” > “OK.”

I did a move of the main files from C to D. It got stalled so I did a cancel. So it’s bavk on c and strangely now the problem is gone

I just had this same issue and fixed it by right clicking on it, going to “App Settings” then at the bottom select “Repair”. This was on Windows 11 with MSFS 2024 if anyone comes across this!
