I have tried a change on my system which has resulted in an increase in FPS from 24 to over 40 at times which I would suggest those interested give a try.
I am a former pilot (USAF,TWA, civilian) and developer/coder (Oracle) and have been involved with modding flight sims since they first appeared, this info only to let you know I am an old f… that has been around the block.
My system: Asus Prime Z490-P MB with a I7 10700K ( no overclock, didn’t seem to help), 32Gb 2400 Ram, EVGA 1600Ti card ( very modest to say the least), LG 32" 4k monitor using the DP input, Community folder with 10 entries, and MSFS latest version on it’s own M2 SSD.
I know everyone says use native res but I decided to march to a different drummer and am using 3k resolution (2880x1600) at 100 scale with the rest of the variables at what gives me a smooth flight with settings at High, Medium, and one low or off (personal preferences).
Over Atlanta at night (clear) in a Caravan I get 35fps where before at 4K I was lucky to see 22fps.
Lousy weather (real time) does not seem to have much adverse effect.
I use fraps for fps, NOT the dev indicator (TMI which I don’t understand anyway, keep it simple Jack!)
Anyway, just a thought for those who like to experiment.
I run on a 4k LG television and tried the 1600 resolution. Increase in FPS for sure, but I didn’t care for the blurry instruments. I don’t usually chase FPS since my system runs 4k very well, but I was curious to see what it looked like. 4k ruined me. Sometimes I wish I never upgraded my panel for FS!
Thanks for the experiment. I suspect there is a difference between, maybe subtle, between a monitor and a TV but I have never used a TV. I increased the the relativity to 1.02 and got rid of the blurriness; having said that, I am back to 3640x2160 and just reduced some of the scenery parameters to now have fairly constant 30. My 1600Ti is the hangup but I will not pay the going price for something better. I might even buy a Xbox S just for grins, using my monitor and jury-rig a logitec joystick I have which is supposed to work.
The GPU prices/supply is ridiculous. I try to be meticulous in caring for my new system b/c I wouldn’t be able to get a replacement GPU! I opened up the case the other day and made sure there was no dust build up. When the time comes, I may be able to squeeze a 3080ti in the 2080ti’s spot…but not until prices come down.
Only 2400 on the ram? Is that the rated speed? You should look into faster ram if its not. You have a great system and would greatly benefit from faster ram speeds.
