Sun "Bleed" Through Clouds / Orange Overcast

You do know I was agreeing with you? There is too much orange/red bleed through to the shadow side of clouds.
But also - that second pic that you said was more realistic, I agree and have a real life pic to demonstrate: (and I’ve seen even more colorful situations that I didn’t get pictures of)

No I didn’t know that you were agreeing with me because you said "Your screenshot is a fair representation of skies that occur where I live when we have scattered thunderstorms. The appearance can sometimes be quite colorful. " so the implication was that you were referencing my first over saturated screen shot rather than the second.

Not to worry, we are on the same page after all so no harm no foul as they say.

Yeah at the moment sunsets and sunrises look like being in a sandstorm due to the sun light bleeding through the clouds. Hope upcoming updates fixes this.

I did some color correction of a screenshot I took at YYZ in the late afternoon, during overcast conditions. I know what the correct colors look like since I could literally look out my window and see the color of the sky.

In-Game (Normal/No-Edit):

Color-Corrected (Edited):

The overly yellow skies is killing the levels of immersion in this game, specially when I can look out my window and see the color of the sky in-game is not matching what I can physically see with my eyes. It’s even worse during winter when most sunsets are a soft grey-blue with some soft mauve tones.

I agree, I’ve thought this too, the bleedthrough and illumination of clouds is excessive!

Nice post @DankusMaximus42 I agree although your colour corrected image looks a little too bright.

Asobo seem to be going for pretty rather than realistic. This is the gaming way of thinking though in my opinion and normally pretty would be awesome but in a simulator I prefer realism.

Gamers will leave eventually, simmers will stay so it should be a priority to improve this SIM towards a realism.

I would appreciate more frequent SIM updates instead of world ones.

I’ve been working on a Reshade profile that tries to fix some of the orange coloration issues. As I was testing it out, I noticed the issue isn’t just limited to the clouds/overcast skies, but the entire color grading in the game.

For some reason the game has this greenish/yellow tint which makes scenes appear warmer in color, and it makes trees and vegetaion oversaturated. This also makes clouds and the overall lighting feel dull, de-saturated, and lacking in contrast, and whites appear less bright and more yellowish. It is quite subtle but in spending enough time with the ReShade profile active and then deactivating it, the change is noticible.

Bellow are some of the before/after of the reshade. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Note the ReShading might look different on another monitor, but I did my best to make it look more realistic on my system.

I agree, this is just wrong! I wanted to fly from my local airport the other day on a rainy overcast evening. I wanted the immersion of a rainy evening. I start MSFS and there you have it… orange clouds and sun shining through a bit. It happens a lot. I guess Asobo really loves orange sunsets.

Hi…
it is fabulous to fly with the current weather in the 2020 flight
simulator, but it would be much more spectacular if the clouds,
with their shadow at sunrise and sunset, had the chance to turn a
beautiful day into a sad and dark day. This would be true realism !!!
During the day this already happens, but unfortunately sunrise and sunset
are always a slightly unreal orange.

Is it possible that no one has marked this?

Good evening, sorry if I insist:
there is a lot of talk about realism… but I no longer read anywhere that this problem is mentioned. Whenever it’s cloudy at dawn and dusk, there are unreal colors! If the weather is bad, ALL colors should be blue, not orange/purple.
Is it not possible to underline this anomaly?
After all we are talking about the best flight simulation game … so!

You are absolutely right, this is another thing which need to re-work. If you are flying in dense overcast layer there is very little to none sun rays. Definitely not that Mars looks which we have in the sim

Was about to make a new thread about it and then found this thread. This is something I’ve noticed a lot the past couple of weeks. Here is a comparison shot of how the sim looks like and how it looks in reality. Screenshot and photo taken at the exact same time and towards the same direction.

maybe they will improve on this on top of the atmospheric changes, or they will only do this in 2024

As someone living in a often cloudy part of middle europe, this is slowly becoming frustrating, that this is getting so little attention.

I’m not noticing an improvement in the latest update, too bad. Really not sure how this isn’t a bigger deal

This is hilarious stuff. I think someone set fire to the atmosphere. Either that or I landed on Mars.

I think this is a separate issue than what the latest sim update addressed. They tweaked the atmospheric scattering values so the sky is less purple at twilight. The sun bleeding through and coloring overcast layers red and orange is a cloud density issue.

They’ve got a new atmospheric model for FS24, and I think we might just have to wait for that.
