You can already fly supersonic in the sim. A really good plane to get if you want to go fast is the F-22. It is freeware but very stable and fun to fly.

Since the expansion was to introduce an F-18, youâd figure that itâd be accompanied by proper support of supersonic physics, something which third parties are waiting for.
So, will these be released ASAP via SDK, or will this be stashed away until May 2022, too? Assuming they didnât just use the same tricks as 3rd parties to get beyond Mach 1.
This is my big hope as well. I donât care if the DLC is delayed if they can give an updated SDK to the 3rd party developers.
So the part in the Q&A today, the question was asked whether the release of the F-18 means MSFS will officially support âsuper sonic flight,â but it wasnât really answered by Seb: Twitch
The part that wasnât answered was whether MSFS will officially support super sonic flight, such that 3rd party devs can create planes in MSFS if MSFS is correctly modelling super sonic flight. This is important because as you may know, FSLabs is working on a Concorde for P3D. If MSFS officially supports super sonic flight, I think there is a good chance that FSLabs will also release their Concorde for MSFS.
Right now, some 3rd party planes can go past the speed of sound in MSFS but from my understanding, they are kind of âhackingâ or finding a workaround in MSFS for their planes, but itâs not really true supersonic flight modeling. If MSFS officially supports supersonic flight modeling, this would open up the doors for 3rd party devs like FSLabs, to make supersonic planes in MSFS, like the Concorde (I doubt FSLabs would want to use the current âworkaroundsâ in MSFS to achieve supersonic flight, they would probably prefer official modeling of supersonic flight in MSFS).
A missed opportunity but I hope the release of the F-18 means supersonic flight is finally officially supported in MSFS so that 3rd party devs can start making planes like the Concorde to use the supersonic flight modeling in MSFS.
Supersonic flight officially supported in MSFS after SU7!
Well, this is what Seb seemed to say:
(the question is at the 51 minute, 43 second mark of the video, in case you are taken to a different timeline in the video)
FSLabs previously said that they canât bring the Concorde to MSFS because MSFS doesnât support supersonic flight modelling. After SU7, I guess this means that FSLabs no longer had any roadblocks in MSFS concerning supersonic flight modeling, and if FSLabs wants to, they can make a Concorde for MSFS.
I think they said yes, but not yet.
Here you go:
This should be interesting using photogrammetry. As it is now (for me) the buildings do not render half the time. This is flying an ultra-light. Rendering cannot keep up.
Now weâre going to fly supersonic? I donât see this working well at all.
BTW I have 100Mb down. Thatâs over twice the Ideal settings from Microsoft, which is only 40Mb down.
Just use your imagination, your the last fighter pilot left on earth after the armageddon! LOL ;p
This has been my thought for a while.
Weâve had supersonic fast jets in the sim unofficially for a while now and thereâs no issues with things not loading fast enough. Iâve flown low over LA at mach 1 in the F15 and had no issues.
Maybe no issues for you.
Rendering photogrammetry has more going on that just peoplesâ internet bandwidth. Getting the data fast enough from Microsoftâs servers is only part of the equation. It also involves your system storage bandwidth, RAM speed, CPU speed, and GPU rendering speed. All of those have to be fast enough if you want to go Mach 1 below several thousand feet.
Agreed.
For me, my system exceeds Microsofts Ideal hardware recommendations, as well as my internet.
So where else do you think the issue may be?
You mean Seb and Jorgâs response? Seb said supersonic flight was available to 3rd party devs with SU7.
If you are referring to FSLabs, I donât think FSLabs said they would bring the Concorde to MSFS in the past.
Have anyone tried if the new F/A-18 is capable of supersonic speeds?
I donât think so, at least not in level flight.
I am free to be corrected here and kind of hope Iâm wrong, but at full afterburner 30,000ft, I think I was somewhere around 600-700 kts. Is the speed indicator showing true airspeed and not indicated air speed? If itâs showing TAS then I donât think I was supersonic.
EDIT: My hopes came true!
Maybe they will add it in the TopGun update.
It will easily go super sonic with afterburner, just like the real one. Keep in mind that very low its really not easy to do. But above a few thousand feet, it will.
As far as I know the F/A-18 canât supercruise (maintain level supersonic without AB). And the sim does the same, if you are supersonic and shut down the AB, itâll quickly go sub sonic (except in a shallow dive)
What does your airspeed show when youâre at full throttle, with afterburner, level flight, at 30,000ft? I did not appear to be supersonic when I tried.
