There was a small update today, I asume new NavData. I ran the update, but subsequently, the sim crashed to desktop. Since then, I does not load anymore, but regularly crashes to desktop after a minute or so.
Same behavior if I try to start in safe mode.
Any ideas what might have happened? No other changes to my PC were done, so this really happened out of the blue…
DX11 or DX12?
If DX11 - uninstall Nvidia app and restart PC.
I had indeed reverted back to DX11 last time I used the sim, for testing purposes!
Can you explain what might have happened?
Messed up my normally fine-running AMD system as well. Week old RX 7600 xt now running redline. Changed fan curve from default speed to 100%, but temp does not drop. FS2020 runs fine, so probably update related.
With Nvidia driver 572.16/572.42/47/60/70/75/83, Nvidia app and DX12 selected in MSFS 2020 a CTD won’t occur.
However, with DX11 selected in MSFS 2020, using the same latest Nvidia driver and Nvidia app, a CTD will occur.
Until Nvidia fixes the application and Asobo MSFS 2020/2024, please check what happens if you select DX12 instead of DX11 by manually editing cfg file.
To do this, you need to edit usercfg.opt
file and modify the line
PreferD3D12 0
Change the number 0 to 1
and save the changes.
OR
If you need Nvidia app, make sure to select DX12 instead of DX11 in Nvidia app and the profile for MSFS 2020.
OR
If Nvidia app installed go to:
c:\ProgramData\NVIDIA
delete folder named NGX

Wow! Thanks a million!
Should have been more patient - after the last CTD I decided to do a reinstall of MS2020.
But depending on what DX preset the reinstall gives me, your solution might still be useful.
Thanks again! Will report how things go!
A 126 GB download later: the sim installs with DX11, so it happily crashed to desktop again.
I applied the config file edit as indicated (which took me exactly 2 seconds) and voiá: the sim works again!
Stupid me, not to check here for solutions first…
@TenPatrol Thanks again - you made my day
