T-28B Trojan

I am not a builder. I spent a few years as line supervisor, VT-27 Corpus Christi Texas. We had upwards of 70 Trojans conducting primary flight operations training for big headed / no brains O-1’s right out of OCS etc.
I was able to fly these aircraft a few times and thought how nice it would be as a now, real pilot to have one in this sim.
Has anyone heard anything in a possible build for this A/C??

Anthony of Ant’s Airplanes did a nice one for FSX and P3D. I’m pretty sure he said he was going to convert everything for MSFS. With some work, the FSX version ports pretty well. He’s currently converting his Tiger Moth. https://www.antsairplanes.com/

I have this T-28 In both FSX and Prepar3D and is a very good model (I trained in a T-28 years ago). I had not seen that it might be coming to MSFS, so am excited at the possibility.

I have Ant’s T-28, amazing add-on. Just sent him an e-mail a couple of minutes ago asking him if he had planned on converting it for MSFS!

Following!

Looks like they are developing their Winjeel for MSFS. Hopefully the T-28 is in line behind it!

YES I CAN CONFIRM I asked mr. ant via email and he told me that He’s now working on the trojan, but it’ll take a long time to finish

What year and squadron?

At least it’s in the works

My dad trained in (and washed out after soloing in) the T-28 in July and August 1957 at Whiting… Funnily, he soloed in one of the subjects of the Kittyhawk 1/32nd T-28C, 140548.

According to the website the T-28A will be freeware and the payware release will be the B, C & D variants.

That’s a good idea. Anyone eager for a test flight can do so. And if more power and speed is desired you can switch to payware.
Not that the 800hp T-28A is a slouch with a top speed of almost 250kts. But the climb rate of 1850 ft/min is definitely something the later models do significantly better (T-28B/C/D slightly over 300kts and 3450 ft/min)

Was doing some window shopping over the weekend and thought it was neat seeing this stock A model with the two bladed prop and R-1300, most A’s seem to have been converted to the later model prop and powerplant.

Not really surprising since it’s been decades since the T-28 went out of service so retrofitting probably made sense for many people who bought them surplus. Must certainly have been cheaper than a P-51 or some other rare warbird. After all with the bigger engine the Trojan is more powerful and performs better than some early-war fighters.
I read somewhere that the U.S.A.F. and Navy retrofitted a bunch of them as well.
Also the R-1820 was a very popular engine. Much more so than the R-1300. I guess even with all the engines lost in the war, today there are significantly more R-1820’s left (and probably also more people who know how to service them)

While stationed at NAS Corpus, I was in VT-27. I flew out over Baffin Bay and did a straight and level test on a B model. At almost standard pressure and about 3000ft, I was able to maintain 248kts.

I’ve been kicking tires on T28s for a couple years now. Can afford a B/C/D and I’ve got the hangar space, but man 60 gph is a tough fuel bill.

This will be a welcome addition, hopefully they do a good job with it.

Break out the credit card
LOL

Anthony Lynch will do an outstanding job on it

Right you are! Ant is one of the best developers in the business. Anything by him is well worth waiting for.**
