Okay this is new. I’ve noticed that when I flew the TBM 930 to fly into Cyclone Ilsa this afternoon, btw I’m in PDT zone. So it bugs me to see that the Autopilot future is not working ever since Sim update 12. Is anyone having this same issue with the aircraft? This is the aircraft that does the best in my opining when I fly through cyclones, typhoons, hurricanes, etc.
Moved to #community-support please use this category when asking for help. Thanks.
Not sure what flying through cyclones has to do with autopilot, but what is your problem with the autopilot?
You haven’t described what the issue is. how can we know if we have it or not?
TBM autopilot works fine for me…
What is your issue. You just complained but haven’t given some more details.
So far the Autopilot works as intended in the TBM for me
A storm is generally maybe not the best companion for any autopilot… but beside that…
I too have no issues with the TBM AP
I also thought I was having issues, as the autopilot would not engage when starting a flight cold and dark from the ramp. I discovered that the checklist does not direct the pilot to turn the autopilot switch on the overhead to “ON”. Once I discovered that, the autopilot worked as expected. When spawned on the runway, with engine running, the switch is correctly set.
The only reason to turn the AP “on” when on he ground is to carry out an AP test.
Prior to SU12 (11?) this was a problem, because if the AP was turned on when on the ground, it could run into limit, and then would not “reset” when turned off, so when turned back on again in the air, the AP was maxed out, and would drive the plane into uncontrolled flight.
This was corrected in SU122 (11?) with the introduction of an AP mode option, where that limit was reset when the AP was cycled — BUT – then it was up to the aircraft Devs to set that correct mode of operation in their AP code.
Now, when this mode is set correctly, it is quite possible to do an AP test on the ground (ie turn the AP on, do the test, and then turn it off), and be assured that when it is then later turned it back on in the air, it does not immediately drive the AP servos into limit, resulting in very undesired control of the plane by a bottomed out AP.
THANK YOU Asobo, for addressing this and adding those AP Mode option
They’re not talking about activating the autopilot, they’re talking about turning on the AP / Trim switch. This enables/disables the motors that the autopilot would use to control the plane. If it’s off, you can activate autopilot but it will not be able to do anything.
The SERVO motors may not be selected to be ACTIVE, but the MSFS AP PID logic may still be running when the AP is turned on, and can still accumulate errors Then, without any resultant correction and reduction of those errors, the the PID integral term can still INTEGRATE up to a maximum limit, resulting in a large error, that later will be applied to drive the servo motors, when they are eventually turned on.
What is real life, is NOT necessarily modeled and simulated correctly in the sim - but it is getting there, as these issues are discovered, and corrected within the MSFS simulation.
I did a clean re-install and when I click the AP button and I had a planned route from Sacramento CA to Stockton CA the plane would not follow the route.
Just to make sure – is this the first time you’ve used the TBM since the “AAU1” update that updated the Garmin G430, G530, G1000, and G3000/G5000 avionics to a new implementation that’s much more accurate to the real units, but behaves differently in some details meaning some peoples’ old incorrect habits are now producing different behavior? For instance, when arming NAV mode if you’re not within a couple dots on the HSI it will only arm, not activate, and it’s up to you to ensure you’re pointed the right direction to keep it getting closer (eg by setting the HDG mode to point in a safe direction)?
So I noticed that I had a planned route from Sacramento CA to Stockton CA and went through the checklist with the TBM 930 and after taking off I pressed the AP button (Auto Pilot) and it seems like the plane does not want to follow the route that I’ve made. I don’t know if this is an addressed issue or what, but if you can add you comment below that would help out. Thanks
Plae Used: TBM 930
Route: KSMF-KSCK
Planned Altitude: 11,000 kft
You turned Nav mode on? Are you in GPS mode?
I made sure the necessary buttons where turned on. I did a clean re-install yesterday
Can you reply over on your first thread on this topic?
Can you upload a screenshot of the PFD?
i’m testing it out and it worked then did not work, and is sort of working I guess
