I am confused by the reading I get on the MFD, and PFD in the TBM930 for ground speed and airspeed. I had an airspeed of 200 knts, a tailwind of 50 knts and a ground speed of 354 knts. This just doesnt make sense. On a still day airspeed should equal ground speed so in my case airspeed should equal ground speed minus tailwind. How can I gave a ground speed of 354 knts when my real airspeed was so much lower?
What altitude? Indicated air speed varies with pressure altitude.
Since I am not familiar with the TBM is it displaying Indicated Airspeed or True Airspeed? Assuming Indicated Airspeed is what you are noticing is the effect that altitude and temps on the functioning of the airspeed indicator.
As you move to higher altitudes and as temps change the difference between Indicated and True airspeed will change, at higher altitudes it can be a considerable difference.
Ahh, that would explain it. A pity nobody bothers to explain that in any of the online sources I found.
You guys will have to excuse my ignorance on this. I have only very recently started flying the TBM and at altitudes considerably higher than the 172.
This gives a brief overview of the different Airspeeds in pretty much all planes the displayed air speed will be Indicated.
The TBM is like a thoroughbred horse. I’m currently flying it as my main career plane on NeoFly and it’s really amazing what it can do
Yeah I love it too, it really shifts.
From France to Polynesia 13 steps East Way FL290-310 . Fantastic TBM !
