Recently switched to the TBM930 from the C208B, lovely plane.
A few general questions and observations - This thing is fast after todays update (?) i did some pattern work for the first time in a long while. I found I had to keep the throttle almost at idle just to keep the circuit speed down to reasonable values - would that be normal?
I could not get OBS to function - does it work in the 930?
It seems very sensitive to winds - with the wind layer deleted and the time set to very early, my landings were very good, a little low but almost buttery With the time at early PM the plane was very hard to stabilise on final and needed fighting all the way down - would that be normal, in my previous (smaller) planes they seemed a bit more stable maybe?
I haven’t attempted OBS ops on the WT g3000 - maybe someone else can fill you in on that one.
This plane is really slick and you have to stay ahead of it in the approach and get it slowed down. My recommendations:
For the Approach, pull torque to 50% - she’ll stabilize around 150K
On Localizer: 2 dots above GS - gear down
1 dot above GS - 1st stage flaps
Just before GS - pull torque to 22%
At GS - full flaps and stabilize on final for 85K (-5 to + 10 mattering on conditions)
Power off at 10 AGL - nose up +5 to +7 and hold it
After touchdown, nose down, reverse prop and brake
I haven’t had to fly a pattern with her for a while. I would drop gear and 1st flaps and try 110K? Then maybe full flaps and 85K on base?
As far as sensitivity I’ve had no issues - she’s very smooth and stable. Now, in all fairness, the 208B is a tank and doesn’t respond quickly if you’re comparing. If the TBM is quirky for you, you might need to reduce the sensitivity of the controls? This is really a very stable aircraft and a pleasure to hand fly - she’s also smooth as silk under AP.
Sorry about that Dave - didn’t realize you were on X-Box. That’s still a great aircraft in its default state as Asobo has made a number of improvements on it. As the WT g3000 is part of the WT Garmin navigation project, it is my understanding that the g3000 will eventually be upgraded in-game once the WT g1000 is incorporated.
The power settings and procedures I recommended should still be close. As far as transitioning, try reducing torque to about 10 % at 50’ AGL and pull the nose up a little. Pull to power-off at about 10’ AGL and bring the nose up to at least 5 degrees or higher.
