Thanks for your comment. I returned from work this evening and my son basically logged out of the game and logged back in. I’m happy to say it now works perfectly… 
I have had all the problems you described. The button binding assignments are still a problem & I need to change the mapping. I did get the recognition issue solved by swapping the usb cables. Try putting the cable with the ferrite beads between the stick & quadrant & the cable without them between the stick & Xbox. Hope this helps….
