TDS or PMS50 GTN 750

Yeah that was what I tried to say in my original post, was that I can remove the locked points/airways from the imported catalog entry and then manually add the exact same ones back in so it seems really wierd.

Again then my question is how do I know which is the RIGHT version? Normally being on the latest version of things is recommended but you are telling me to install an OLDER version. So how do I know I need to do this besides seeing some random person on the internet say it?

If you do not belive me go to the TDS Discord and ask @TDSsim. I am telling you that 20.30.8.0 is the supported version. The newer version is not yet supported. There are differences in the versions and they do not just automagicly work. Programming needs to be done on the backend. New version usually means new features available.

I am the random guy just wasting my time trying to help someone who wishes to argue.

From @TDSsim

" Thank you for your interest in the new GTNXi PC Trainer V20.42.2.0. This is indeed a nice development that brings many new and exciting GTN Xi features. Support for it can only come from us, as it requires internal work on the TDS GTNXi, this is not something that can be easily changed by the end user. As soon as we have news, we will post here. The currently supported trainer version is V20.30.8.0."

I’m not saying I don’t believe you, I’m saying what I’m saying which is how do you know? I don’t want you to give me fish I want to know how to fish.

Nothing in their documentation indicates a specific version to use so installing the latest one made sense, especially as it DOES state that using older versions can cause problems.

So I don’t see how the end user is supposed to know what version of the trainer should be used.

Hello,

Thank you for your questions on the TDS GTNXi. We are here to clarify them. If you want official information, you can always contact us via Discord, Support Forum, Facebook or email.

In regards to the compatible GTNXi PC Trainer, at the time of writing the message, as @BoboSkypark has stated, version 20.30.8 is the latest, with work well underway for version 20.42.2.0

Our goal is to provide much more than just the latest PC Trainer, but also to bring the new features that each new PC Trainer versions brings, which are big in the case of the V20.42.2; release will come after official G3X compatibility. Not to worry, the TDS GTNXi is in great hands, in continued development and we can assure all our customers that we strive very hard to continually improve the TDS GTNXi by bringing the features that matter the most to our customers!

As always, if you have any specific questions, do not hesitate to ask us.

I think the specific question was:

Was your answer that users should ask on discord?

Yes, Discord is the fastest method of communication for any questions regarding the TDS GTNXi!

This post has brought a great idea, to modify the TDS GPS Manager to display the latest supported GTNXi PC Trainer. We would like to thank for this opportunity to improve the TDS GTNXi and to make our system more logical to our customers.

I’m confused. Doesn’t Bobo’s post directly above yours give you the documentation you seek?

You missed the bit about the fish. But it seems like the developers have come up with a better solution, of displaying the latest supported version in the app. This is how progress occurs. :slightly_smiling_face:

What Bobo posted was simply a response some developer gave in the Discord channel. I’d hardly call that documentation.

As Wombat says I was wanting to know how to find the proper information, not simply be told the proper information.

I think it is great that the developers have recognized this and will be adding that informtion into the software so it is surfaced for the end user.

In the TDS Support Forum has the Release Notes Thread Topic to see all changes.

Latest Entry for Supported Trainer version is a bit down the page since how long ago it was that Garmin had made an update till now:

Version 1.0.2.5 released 01.05.2023

New Feature - GTNXi PC Trainer V20.30.8 support
New Feature - Performance improvements for Hardware GPU Scheduling enabled with the new GTNXi PC Trainer V20.30.8, there is no need to disable GPU Hardware Scheduling (HAGS) anymore provided you have the GTNXi PC Trainer V20.30.8
New Feature - TDS GTNXi turns off internally if it is not the selected GPS navigator - improved performance
New Feature - Electrical Circuit Support - the TDS GTNXi can be attached to specific electrical circuits for aircraft that support this feature (HPG H145, SWS RV-10)

Another option than having to go to discord to get direct TDS support and Information.

Just curious - does anyone out there own and use both TDS and PMS50? I own the latter, and am perfectly happy with it, but am curious about the former… Anyone have thoughts? (Other than tlberiu11, whom I’m sure would say "Yes, buy the TDS!!! )

I own both, and although the PMS50 is easier to use and covers all the basics, the TDS seems more realistic, even though it is more complicated. I use the TDS exclusively, now.

I also own both and as @SamuraiSax I also use the TDS exclusively now.

So I own both and am using the PMS because (1) it imports my MSFS flight plan, and (2) its airport database matches the one in MSFS. TDS has a lot of niceties, but I often had to manually add coordinates for bush airports, deal with ICAOs that are different from add-on airfields, etc.

The one place where I had TDS working great that PMS is not is putting the GPS full-screen on an iPad using SpaceDesk, Doesn’t seem to support touch (TDS does) on the tablet, and my controls don’t respond when the pop-out window is active.

Am I missing something, or is TDS just the clear better choice if you’re using it with a tablet?

POPM (pop out panel manager) will give you touch on popped out displays.

I am thinking of getting TDS later when my yearly PMS subscription runs out. At the present I use PMS and it is very good for what it does but I got this primarily because of updatable navigraph database which at the time was not available for TDS. Now that TDS also has updatable database, I am thinking of swapping it with PMS once my yearly subscription runs out. What do you people think? How does TDS compare to PMS? I know it is realistic and uses Garmin trainer but what about features?

“What about features?”
Just what exactly are you asking?

I mean what can TDS do - “Features” what it is capable of. How it is different from PMS.

The TDS and PMS versions do the same thing, only the TDS does it more realistically. The PMS is easier to use, but the TDS is the real deal. For example, the PMS automatically loads the flight plan from the MSFS World Map. With the TDS you have to enter it manually, as in real life.
