Tecnam P2012 is Here

Some bugs I found while flying the P2012 for a couple of weeks now:

  • Unable to feather the props in-flight.
  • Unable to activate the autopilot when starting your flight from cold and dark.
  • If you connect external power after parking with the engines (or 1 engine) running, the MASTER switch and the Field switches trip OFF. Because of this the avionics reboot.

I haven’t tested the feathering in flight, but those last 2 I don’t think are defects. Autopilot has always worked fine for me when starting C&D, and it’s mentioned in the manual that all electrical switches are intentionally switched off when activating GPU to prevent battery overcharge. Not sure it was originally intended to be activated while engines are running.

For the AP, what exact steps are you following when starting C&D to boot everything up, and what happens when you try to use it?

i am having the same problem with the a/p as the op. i am unsure of exactly how to replicate the problem but i have found that if i press the button in the efb to skip the walkaround (i think it’s “prepare for flight” or something like that), the a/p just won’t engage. i can normally turn the a/p master off and on a couple of times and then press the a/p button on the controller and it might start working but it’s a pain and it makes me not want to fly the plane.

the issue has been raised in the fss discord but there’s been no traction towards solving the issue that multiple people are reporting thus far.

What you’re describing has never happened to me so far. I use the EFB button sometimes and sometimes I don’t. I always turn on or check MASTER A/P before the flight and then AP during the flight… However, I have never used the ‘save state’ function. I can try that.

On the other hand, I have a problem where the FMS button and the double arrow button on FMS keyboard don’t work. Both are still INOPERATE.
Does this happen to you too? Are these two buttons active for you?

I experience something weird with the sounds: whenever I change from external camera to cockpit camera, the sounds need about 5 seconds to adjust back or something. There’s this change in pitch for 5 seconds until it’s normal again.

Since I’m constantly changing to external camera to enjoy the plane and the scenery it starts to get a bit annoying.

same thing happens in their p2006t so…

Hi, could you please check if the FMS button and the double arrow on the FMS keyboard are working for you? Both are INOPERATIVE for me. How is it for you? Thx

Same problem with Quest2

Hi,
I turn all electrics on except the Field switches, AP & Trim master ON, start the engines, Field switches ON.
After takeoff I try to activate the auto pilot but nothing happens.

As simple as that.

I agree. This plane has had autopilot issues since its release. They must be doing something non-standard or unusual with the autopilot. For me, it doesn’t work when I am in VR. Hopefully, they will release a fix at some point.

I apologize if this was discussed before, but when I open the door for the parachute drop, the plane crashes with an overstressed message. I do fly the model with the parachute slide door, and I slowed down to 80ish knots, still crashing. What am I missing?

You didn’t know that if you have airplane stress detection turned on, it causes planes to crash when you open a door or window when in flight. The only solution is to turn it off.

Thanks for the info. There is a way to program a “door” to be opened and not to crash, Azurpoly pulled this off, the C160 Transall has paratrooper doors on the side of the fuselage the can be opened mid flight and the plane does not crash (with stress detection on, since I never turned it off).

Yep. But if the plane crashes, there’s nothing we can do about how the door is programmed. It’s now (sort of apparently I just found out) a moot point in 2024 because that aspect is fixed.

Unfortunately, it’s possible some numbskull decided to automatically kick you out of the plane when you open the door. I sure hope that rumor is unfounded. No idea what they were thinking if they made that choice.

I understand the complexity of having the animations for an avatar to enter and leave all the different types of airplanes. But, since we’re apparently just cameras any, just give me gravity like any wander camera gets, and let me move in and out of the plane. It can’t be that hard to figure out how and when to switch between interior and exterior. But I certainly DON’T want to get kicked out of my plane because I opened the door.

We found a workaround for the autopilot problem:
After starting the engines, hit escape and go to the controls menu. Then just, hit escape 2 times to go back to the simulator.
Et voila, AP is usable.

I haven’t flown it in some weeks but I swear to it this thing will not follow VNAV instructions, and programs in only cruise altitude until final(so it plots a giant toilet flush above every final WP). Even when programming altitudes manually it just goes on about it’s business and I just fly the decent manually. I buy too many aircraft. And now with the SkyCourier and a host of new twins coming…

It’s a bit off topic but I was looking up flights for the P2012 and I found this flight of Cape Air they did this week: Billings to Sioux City. That was a three hour flight! The P2012 does not have a toilet as far as I know. That’s hardcore man.

Or it’s a real smelly flight!

Hi, could anyone tell me if it’s possible to control custom LVAR switches for the P2012 via StreamDeck Mobile using the Flight Tracker Plugin? Either it’s not working, or I’m doing something wrong. If it works for someone, could you please share a screenshot? Thanks for the advice.

You need Lorbys AAO. There are LVars possible
