TERRIBLE LOD is destroying a potentially great sim! (DISCUSSION)

Maybe I’m wrong, but I notice that with the live traffic off I have better LOD (flying over Greece and with cache memory on) I have 200 mb Internet connection but only 3 mb if I download from marketplace. If it is generic problem with the msfs servers, and loadings sceneries with really low speeds, maybe Asobo will have to search it.( Xbox X)

This may very well be XCloud balancing load by limiting server resources allocated to each user. I’d recommend filing a ticket with XCloud support.

Posts like these do not contribute to the thread at all. I have also noted you posting the same simplistic negativity in other threads.

I respect your frustration with the game but this forum exists for constructive communication, not mindless, repetitive, venting posts.

London lol

Clear rolling cache. Turn it on again, set it to 64gigs or higher

Something is very wrong with your sim. I’ve never seen London look that bad. I’d be interest to see what you get for a broadband speed test.

So i know my internet isnt the problem because i ran the same internet since about a month ago i recently switched to verizon 5g home internet which uses cell towers but verizon isnt that bad. Ill get latency spikes every now and then but nothing game breaking im still able to play PVP shooters no problem. I ran COX internet since msfs was released on xcloud and it always ran great till the new Zealand update came than it messed everything up. On cloud im not able to delete world updates or remove cache because i assume cloud doesnt use the same console every time i log in. With cox it was always 150x10 heres verizons test. Ive always played through wifi and ive tried wired which does run better but it has no difference with the sim. By the way this was tested on my phone and not my PC i dont know if it makes a difference but these are the speeds i usually get on my pc

It would be best to test the actual device you run the sim on, but I think your download exceeds the minimum requirements.

If I run that test on my iPad I get around 200Mbps. On the PC I get 550Mbps. The iPad is limited by my wireless. So it would be a fair argument to say your phone is probably a bit slower than your PC, unless it too is wirelessly connected.

Here’s what my London looks like from a roughly similar viewpoint as yours:

That ping looks good, DL speed is enough. You have a big bit of DL, and UL latency. Not sure if that is a factor. Just saw you ran it off a phone…

Yea london looks like a heavy spot to run endless is just a PG problem, not bad as mines tho lol i just hope they fix this issue and dont dump this sim for 2024. But like i said i had this issue before and they fixed it with one of the updates but this has been the longest with no fix just glad the problem got some attention. Yea my Phone speeds are slower than my pc

I get that too in VR. My internet is 400down 100up so that’s not the problem. Lod 105, olod 100

I still think it looks bad here.

Whatever your issue is, it’s not your available bandwidth. Maybe something specific to the XCloud version perhaps?

LoD 105 is kind of Medium, maybe Mid/Low. But that should just mean that your close-in PG should still look good, but its complexity will reduce sooner than someone that is running 200+. You’ll see those pyramid shapes sooner, in effect.

I wonder if there’s some weird throttling between the blade running the sim and the Azure infrastructure providing the PG data.

So from what ive heard before cloud runs on the x series but uses s series video quality. But thats not it because i cant stress enough how beautiful the sim used to be.

I’ve noticed the same. I was actually a bit disappointed with my XBX experience around PG until I remembered that turning off traffic helped on my PC and so I tried it and now things are any where from good to great. It also helps to fly slower, less complicated planes I think.

I think @MrTonySM above hit the nail on the head. Here is your speed test results with download latency = 232ms and upload latency = 763ms:

Here’s my speed test (Frontier fiber) w/download latency = 6ms and upload latency = 15ms

As per Ookla web site:
"Run the Speedtest to see where your latency issues actually lie. You can use your mobile device to test both your cellular network (which you don’t have a lot of control over) and your Wi-Fi network (which you have a lot of room to troubleshoot).

  • If your idle ping is high, you have an overall latency problem. You will want to test the network with another device to see if the issue affects both. If it does, restart your router. If the problem continues, consider moving your router someplace more central.
  • If your download or upload ping is high, you may have a bigger problem. Contact your router manufacturer or internet service provider (ISP) to see if they can help. Advanced users may find this guide useful."

So my guess would be since your ping response of 20ms is pretty good and your download latency of about a quarter of a second is pretty bad and your upload latency of three quarters of a second is horrendous I would guess your ISP is possibly throttling your service or your 5G internet service is not very good for gaming.

EDIT:

I just did a speed test on my phone with my 5G service and got similar results to you with download and upload latency (see below). My 5G service is excellent with close cell towers (within line of sight). My guess now is that 5G service is perhaps not want you want to use for gaming/MSFS. Those high latencies are killing your gaming experience.

I dont disagree the service isnt the best but it doesnt make it unplayable atleast for me, im still able to play games like insurgency sandstorm or bf 2042 with the occasional spike which isnt bad at all night times are better because theres less traffic. But again even before i had the 5g service i had cox and never had problems with the internet and the sim was still messed up. The sim messed up around the new Zealand update for me and i just switched to this 5g internet no more than a month ago

Your ISP is delivered over 5G? Well that may explain the latency.

Those 5G latencies may be ok for online games that utilize small bursts of data but for games that require larger chunks of data real time like MSFS you’re probably going to notice it. That’s probably why the buildings lack some detail as your online connection can’t keep up and feed the data in time to render it.
