Don’t forget, this title was released in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. I am amazed that the final work could be done at all. I’ll give the developers an “A for effort” and a conditional pass for the bugs. The condition is: if we’re still discussing bugs this time next year it’ll be a different story.
Aside: I am a fan of the 007 canon, as was very much looking forward to the latest film this past April. That release has been delayed by one year, and entire theatre chains have been shuttered. The scope of this pandemic cannot be underestimated.
I am very Thankful to have such a marvelous and immersive bit of software to distract me from the very real news we hear every day. I get to fly to the Bahamas if I want, and take “tours” with a like-minded group with the Community Fly-in Events. It’s been a fun start to what promises to be a game-changing bit of code. (No pun intended… well… maybe sort of… )
No because Asobo has a dedicated team for the SDK development and if you believe the guys from Aerosoft Asobo is really doing everything they can to help the 3rd parties but it takes time. At least the release every week a SDK update and with that progress the state of the (also not perfect) Prepar3d SDK will be reached sooner than later.
Good point I also hope that the Airliner Sim Update will bring us a lot of improvements because now Asobo got it right that most of the players use Airliners or well at least the A320 because it’s pretty simple to fly compared to any other Airliner in the game at this state of development.
Yes if you count the costs for addons that get the graphics of P3d to a similar level and include the value of the world updates as a scenery package you are far beyond 200$ and also you get 30 planes (with bugs ) but at least in really good visual quality. So i still believe those bugs will be fixed one day and than the price is really cheap for what you get
You bought it for a Maximum of £130,yet you want it to include 1- 2-3 study level aircraft??one study level aircraft like say PMDG 737 is about £130.you realise what you are asking for .basically a free flight simulator.with a map that covers the whole world, that will be supported for 10 years.which also took about 5 years to get to where it is now.and you begrudge paying for it.
I bought the standard version after trying game pass for 1 dollar. I knew from the beginning that this would be a buggy game. Going by my experience with X plane and FSX Steam edition I know that even after years of dev. its not great overall experience. This game is a revolution for me especially with the mods like fly by wire 320. I just wish that the 747, 787 and the other smaller jets had similar support from community dev. But hey as long as fly by wire is actively working on this I think the 60 + 1 dollar was a excellent investment of my money. I even splurged and got myself a logitech xtreme 3d joystick for 40 bucks now that they were available. Money well spent and i have had nothing but fun playing with this game. I was amazed that my old 4690k processor from 2014 and 2070 super from 2019 were able to keep up with this game. I hope with the promised optimizations and several world updates this will continue to give me joy for at least a few more years to come. Thank you Asobo and MS for investing your time and money in a very neglected genre!
Honestly this type of genre I feel is just too complicated to get right without a very large audience that can provide feedback. Could they have bundled replay mode from the get-go and fixed the AP to not crash the planes, sure. But its not done out of avarice or neglect its done due to the scope of the project and the money available to invest in it. I am just super happy that the stars aligned just right for this game to become reality. Just step back and think for a second: Cloud computing + Massive data collection via commercial sat. + Massive increases in client computers (graphics cards/processors) + advances in AI all have come together just at the right time to make this game possible. That plus the motivation of a new generation of consoles and having exclusives especially with at title that lends itself to VR which is going to be a killer application going forward. I think this game is showing the way forward for all gaming. You have to have cloud computing, you have to have massive amounts of data and you have to have cloud computing AI to be able to pull this type of game off. This is the future its just that its being applied to a very complicated genre of games. I think other than rocket science, aviation maybe one of the hardest areas to get just right. Then add to that the complexity of various airplanes, airports, man made and natural structures visible on the surface of the planet and you seriously are talking about a massive challenge. If I was a IT executive that was brought this proposal I would have said its too ambitious and cut it down to just a limited release of 2 planes, one continent and a handful of airports. Probably would have gotten cancelled before 1st release due to lack of interest. LOL
I bought it day one and no regrets. Despite it’s bugs that can get on your nerves sometimes I enjoy it every day. Things will go up and down for atleast (a few) months and I will probably ■■■■■ about it’s bug for the same amount of months.
Even just a poor quality scenery/terrain of only 1/3rd of the UK (think a small portion of the North of England) that they call it TrueEarth (ORBX) would cost you £30 / $40. So the whole of UK would cost £120 / $162. The quality of the scenery would not match the high quality that you get with MSFS, and you would need more than a terabyte of HDD space to install it all. Of course your FPS will drastically reduce too. You would be lucky to get more than 20 FPS in a small GA after all that band-aids installed while flying over the above-mentioned scenery.
I bought it for the way it ran the first month when I tried it on gamepass. Ran fine for another month after I bought it. Then they started ramping up for Xbox and VR development and breaking things every 2 weeks. Now can’t even run the game I bought that ran fine when I bought it.
I even would have bought it if I had known the problems to come. The sim has great potential and Asobo needed the (financial) agreement of the community. If MSFS had flopped like eg MS Flight Microsoft might have dropped it immediately. And honestly I don‘t think the base of the sim is bad. Only the default aircraft are made for the xbox game experience whose users won‘t likely purchase many addons. Us PC users will get our preferred addons anyway as soon as they become available. Aircraft, GPS devices, etc.
Yes after seeing the condition of the aircraft at release I would not have purchased the deluxe version. We were sold a bill of goods that were not as advertised.
Well, unfortunately, even if there were “flush” lights, those lights would still be there. I’m pretty sure they are just the taxiway edge lights. Thing is, the auto airport create code should be able to tell when a taxiway is on an apron, so, the fix would be, “Taxiway on apron, turn edge lights off”
Yep, I’ve been obsessed with it as well (but not even 50 hours flying yet… then again, probably a couple hundred hours developing liveries and airports )
In fact, I’ve been so obsessed with it I went out and reupped my ppl to get my BFR after 19 years and have 14 hours of real flying in the last month!.. And I still love flying here, too
Ooh, and the cool thing is I can come home after work, open a beer, watch a football game and fly all at the same time
Let me put this way. After 2hrs “flying” this sim, I really got appreciation to my P3D sim.
These guys from MSFS left high and dry. It all about the scenery, nothing about the fly model , control and experience.
