I am in the process of speccing out a new PC and can’t decide which CPU to go for, the PC is going to be mainly for Flight Sim but I will play other games so trying to future proof as much as possible
The Intel CPU’S I am looking at are:
i9-10920X
i9-11900K
and the AMD I am looking at is
Ryzen 9 5950X
For GPU I plan to go for an RTX3000 series, but as I haven’t had an AMD in ages not sure if it would be a prefable to go for AMD instead for CPU or stay with Intel
Any suggestions on any of these CPU’s
Sorry for another one of those which CPU questions!!
I went with the 5900 which is not on your list as the 5950 just didn’t seem like enough bang for the buck as the 5900. I would have got the 11700 (or 11900) but was disappointed at the step backward in the number of cores and its 14nm lithography.
Yes, Intel’s single-core performance may be a little faster than AMD but for all-around use, I’m happy about my decision. Nothing can be made future-proof on a PC but I think I came close. We’ll see!
@Alcatraz524 thanks for your suggestions, yes I am going to build myself (been a while but think I can remember how )
@Hambone747 I see what you mean about Future proofing, but at least looks like you have done as much as you could, looking at the specs of the CPUs again think I am going to go with the 5900X and with the cost saving can get a Honeycomb Bravo (when they are in stock again)
10920X is absolutely the last I’d go with among those three. I’d actually prefer a 5600X or 11600K to that when it comes to current games, especially MSFS. Way too expensive for 12 cores, and the per-thread performance isn’t close to the 11000 series or Ryzen 5000 series.
Good choice. With parts hard to find, I splurged and had Falcon build it with the 5900X and the 3800. I’ve only had it about three weeks but I have no buyer’s remorse!
@Hambone747 Must say I have never heard of Falcon, I will see what I can do with sourcing the components and building myself, if not I will get Novatech to build it for me.
11900K(F) is the fastest for MSFS. The 5950X and 5900X are not far behind, just 5 to 10 % in benchmarks, barely noticable in the sim.
You should wait for DX12 to show up in MSFS. Just a small performance change in the direction of multi-CPU usage in MSFS could set back Intel quite a bit.
I just did a rebuild and swapped out my i7-7700K for an i9-11900K. Absolute world of a difference for me. No stutters and have not seen it dip below 25fps…even during an approach at LAX with all settings on ultra. I have it pared to a 1080ti.
Another critical component to a good FS build is a good CPU cooler. I just installed an EVGA 360mm radiator and although my PC sounds like a GE 90, my CPU is always cool.
Is there any review out there that isn’t saying the 3080ti is a complete and utter waste of money? 5- 10% performance gain (if you’re lucky) over the 3080 for a lot more money, and these cards are all a lot of money at the moment.
As of right now probably the only reason to get a 3080ti or indeed a 3090 is that they’re both slightly easier to got hold of. Everyone is chasing the 3080.
I also upgraded from 7700K to 11900K a couple a weeks ago and i am very satisfied.
With Adaptive boost technology enabled it runs on 5100Mhz all core and it works very good with RTX3080, 32GB ram and Reverb G2.
I had this dilemma a few weeks ago and decided to move away from intel and opted for the 5950x and the rtx3090. I have no complaints, the machine handles anything I throw at it, work or play.
I don’t think there is a right answer to this question(Ryzen9 3900x…owner), except choose the best system you can configure for the price you want to pay…and whatever is currently in stock
I upgraded to a 5800x from a ivybridge 3770k so upgrade was long overdue. More than happy with choice however using precision boost takes a bit of getting used to compared to all core overclock where the cores are running at full clock speed all the time.
If you can wait till next year, new platform is coming out with ddr5 so there a bit of future proofing otherwise given intel has closed the performance gap …go with what you are comfortable with or what you know. Fortunately cpu prices seem to have come down a bit recently, as for gpu’s…
As always fast ram and plenty of cooling, case space
