The Asobo nerf hammer has killed offline AI traffic...on the ground at least

Good point. I am not talking about vectoring though. This, funnily enough, I have no issues with as it seems that the sim relies on the pilot to fly the correct vectors to pick up the route.

I am talking about cases where I specifically planned a flight to use X transition on the approach (be it a VOR or waypoint) and the ATC tells me to use Y transition, even if it not correct for the runway I am using (for example if I approach 09L and the ATC gives me a transition that only applies to 09R).

I’d have to look up my recent flights to provide a specific example, but the nav data is sadly not accurate at times, despite lofty claims to the contrary. Or maybe the sim struggles to interpret the data correctly or maybe I am struggling.

But I have been simming for 25 years and had no such problems before MSFS.

Yeah, just went through this on the Orbx forums with XP / P3D fanboys waxing on about the good ole days of their sim:

You’ll remember we saw the exact same complaints when FSX came out from the FS2004 hardcore. “I bought the latest PC and I can’t run it with all the sliders up, waaaah” “the flight models are terrible” “it’s just a bunch of eye-candy” “I’m going back to FS2004” Same guys are glassy-eyed thinking about FSX and P3D now.

When people say “P3D is better” - they mean P3D v4.5 with PMDG 737, Active Sky, REX textures, Ultimate Traffic, FSUIPC, EasyDok, FlyInside, 50 of their favorite addon airports, TBs of True Earth or photoscenery, custom shaders, etc. It’s in no way apples to apples. Let’s see where MSFS is in 2-3 years, once we have PMDG quality aircraft and a better selection of our fav airports. ( I’m guessing P3D will be on the way out and XP will still have it’s 15-20% market share )

Its the same lame pattern..

P3D/XP11 comes along and simmers get snobby and turned their noses up at FSX as if they never enjoyed it.

MSFS comes along and simmers get all brand new arrogant and snobby towards P3D/XP11 as if they never enjoyed them.

Nothing new in the flight sim world😏

Change = Fear

Also, people are invested in their old sim that they’ve spent years and hundreds/thousands of dollars on - so they want to defend their choice and look more old skoool hardcore than the “Xbox kiddies” here

They’ll all be on MSFS in 2 years anyways and will have forgotten about P3D
Except those 3 guys still on FS2004 because “it runs just fine on their PC”. :stuck_out_tongue:

Or you could simply enjoy all new and prior sims how you see fit.
No need to have to only enjoy one or pick a side and bash the others.
In 2 years the FSX,P3D,XP11,FS2004 sub forums will still be active.
FSX SE is still currently being purchased on Steam and multiplayer servers are still very lively.

People are going to like what they want to like and there isn’t anything wrong with that.:light_bulb:

It seems we have drifted a bit from the original topic here.
This thread is to discuss the lack of AI traffic at the airports.
Let’s not slide into merely another thread dedicated to bashing each other.

Stay on topic

just been sat at gatwick myself for the last half hour, all planes sat at gates not moving doing nothing, just vehical traffic moveing about, i even turned on AI trafic and its doing the same thing nothing.

yep. I’ve still got P3D 4.5 and XP 11 installed and no plans to dump them anytime soon.
Just finally hit full burn-out from the 9 months of non-stop, incessant whining from the fanboys with nothing constructive to say.

@willisxdc AI traffic works fine here, thanks!
Just need real planes with real liveries. And consistent ground taxi behavior to / from gates. And using the correct gates, with the correct airlines in that part of the world.

Also, ATC is a whack-a-mole mini-game
it provides no real interaction or ability to change what you want to do on the fly. It will happily keep you at 10,000’ until you’re 2 miles from the runway if you let it, or issue a descent into a mountain. My life improved considerably when I assigned Radios to the AI Copilot - although that’s annoying sometimes, too

Turn off the AI and and turn on the Live. then open “Flight Aware” or any similar real world flight tracking website and compare the traffic you see with what is displayed in the sim. There is usually a bit of delay between real time and sim but most of the traffic should match up. With the huge reduction in real world air traffic due to the pandemic it is possible that there are significant periods of quite at any airport.

I was at both Calgary International and Vancouver International over the last few days and can tell you that there is no where near the line of traffic we are all used to. A huge number of airliners just parked off the active areas of the airports. Looks apocalyptic.

I presume you have never used Pilot2ATC, which is excellent. Of course, you have to speak to the controllers using real world radio protocols which, if you do not know them, you will have to study.

However, it is so much better than the ‘default’ that there is no possible comparison.

The thread by the way is about offline AI traffic, not ATC.

In the SU8 Public Beta, Departing Traffic is working in both Offline AI and Live Traffic scenarios.

Are you running any mods?

If you’re not seeing Nameplates, you might actually be on AI Offline Traffic and not Live. Multiplayer and Live will show Nameplates. VATSIM/IVAO, injected traffic (including AI Offline) will not.

They are very much Live. That’s KATL - you can check against the flight number and airline, they’ll match real traffic enroute right now or just landing.

You can look in #self-service:wishlist category.

Here’s a sample of what comes up with the keyword search “nameplate” in that category.

Here’s one that comes close because IVAO is injected traffic, same as AI Offline.
