The best peripheral set-up for lounge TV and Xbox

So this is a request to see what the best Xbox setups are for sofa simming (lounge TV - not desk).

I’m going to make a few thread recommendations, please:

  • Let’s not make this about PC or Desk/Monitor set-ups please (other than in passing)
  • Solutions need to fit on a lap (or close to lap)
  • The solution must be viable for enjoying the Xbox version of the sim fully (or close to fully)

My own set-up so far is:

Hotas T.Flight One + Rudder Pedals and an Xbox Controller with ‘chat pad’.

Have you done better? :grinning:

Until i get a hotas or yoke myself im using a controller with wireless mouse and keyboard in the sofa. But looking at your set up, i think i would get one of those small tables(like you have when eating breakfast in bed or tv dinner tables) to have over your lap to keep it all stable. I think ill be doing that at a later date. Just my thoughts.

A side table really isn’t good enough to put stuff on, pick stuff up from in flight.
I do have a ‘tray table’ but I found the additional height was more trouble than the benefit.

I already map some controls to my ‘chat pad’ to save me having to cursor/lock, open menu, faff about.
So I can toggle ‘active pause’, ‘Nav Log’ and ‘map’ with a single key press. :slightly_smiling_face:

Are these mappable in the control options?

Yes.

Warning: I did replace some things it warned me were already mapped but no biggie… :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Go into keyboard controls.

I made ‘Active Pause’ currently mapped to ‘pause’ (not on my keyboard) a “P”
Navlog to “N”, Map to “M”.

I couldn’t find menu commands listed for Camera or Flight Assistant or I would have assigned keys to those too.

Does the chat pad work as if you’ve got a keyboard attached?

It is effectively a ‘mini-keyboard’ is designed for an Xbox controller (uses a USB dongle to ‘connect’ the Xbox to the keyboard) and MSFS treats it as ‘the keyboard’ (though it has fewer actual keys) and therefore the controller’s stick is acting as the mouse.

Example product - there are others.

Nice one, placed an order that will be a big use to me

I bought a lapboard from Amazon.com and using that on my recliner chair to set my Hotas T.Flight One and controller on. I don’t have rudder pedals so don’t have to worry about having my feet up. For some reason the cheaper board on amazon is 5/16" compared to 3/16" for the more expensive one which I initially bought, but it was more like something Rolf Harris would use for a wobble board as it sagged so much. Also enough room to put my ipad on too if I’m looking up VOR or ADF points on skyvector.

I’m running my MSFS on PC, but it’s setup as a Lounge+TV setup myself. So I use Couchmaster for my surface to mount my Throttle and Sidestick with wireless mouse and keyboard.

I use an Active USB extension from my PC, route it to the size of my living room that goes under my couch with an Active USB hub underneath it. So my Throttle is connected to the hub underneath my couch so it doesn’t clutter my living room that much. And I can just sit back and use the lap board as a base for my sidestick, throttle, and keyboard and mouse.
