The Big Ezy - Return to Gatwick

After flying the A32NX down from Gatwick to Skiathos yesterday, enjoying a seamless gate to gate experience- I thought it would be rude not to make the return journey.

The SID from LGSK is rather convoluted, so I opted for a late afternoon visual departure, climbed up to FL380 and followed the Baltic Coastline back towards England as the sun set off to my left.

I flew the sector during the evening in real world time, so as the sun set in the sim, I turned off my house lights at home and enjoyed a rather relaxing journey across Europe with just the dimmed cockpit lighting and after glow on the horizon providing an immersive ambiance to the experience.

Things got a little less relaxing after receiving the Gatwick weather on the MCDU however, with the fog that I had departed from prevailing longer than forecast meaning an ILS CAT IIIB approach to absolute minimums was going to be required if I was to make it in!

I’m surprised at how tense I felt flying down the ILS, really hoping I was going to see the lead in lights pop out the darkness to prevent a diversion to Paris! They literally came into view mere seconds from touchdown, and the sense of relief upon roll out was palpable. Another all round very enjoyable experience thanks to MSFS
