The Bush Divers Invitational: Tonto National Forest

This weekend, we’re in Arizona! We start at the scenic Sedona (KSEZ) before venturing south into Tonto National Forest. We’ll pass by Montezuma Castle on our descent down to Camp Verde for our first stop. From there, the canyon runs will begin, first in a run up West Clear Creek Canyon, before hopping the butte and descending into the Fossil Springs Canyon. Our second stop will be our shortest (KPIN), a nice dirt strip on a low overlook on the Verde river. Continuing south over the Horseshoe and Bartlett Reservoirs before looping around Adams Mesa and landing at Goldfield Ranch (AZ25). Our final stretch will be a test of canyon navigation and endurance; a winding course over Canyon Lake before cutting south through Sierra Canyon, over the Superstition Mountains, zig-zagging through canyons on our descent to our final airport E81 in Superior, AZ.

4 landings in total, 150nm. The highest point we’ll pass over is around 6,400 feet, the flight plan has been tailored to stick to canyons and valleys as much as possible. The shortest runway is 1394 feet (KPIN).

Flew a bit of the route today for familiarization. In Kodiak but haven’t decided what I’ll fly Saturday.

Looks like it really gets into the canyons after WP11
