The current 727,should I buy or wait?

I’m currently traveling atm and I’m very tempted in the 727…

Is it worth it and what is the story with the 727, will it include the passenger version and as I’ve read that there may be another developer around the corner as well as msfs 2024… Is it Xbox controller friendly??

I like the look of the current 727, but am waiting until the FS Reborn/SWS 727-200 arrives, followed by a freighter (with proposed animated cargo - such as drooping flowers if the pressurisation isn’t right!), then the 727-100 Pax, Zero gravity and VIP) as I think this may be a very promising aircraft.

It’s not only the looks what’s good about the current FSS rendition. Although it’s not a study level airplane it flies nicely, is fun and has some cool features like a clipboard instead of EFB and a mobile phone for automatic flight engineer control. And it’s cheap to just have it to fill the gap if one is waiting for the FS Reborn/SWS rendition.

I’m also not sure how far FS Reborn/SWS version is but it will have to beat the FSS 727 if they want to succeed and that’s gonna be tough, I think. FSS are working on a pax version as well and have the luxury of catching bugs in the freighter in the meantime which will also project onto the pax version. If the SWS’ one will be better than the FSS offering then I’ll happily buy it.

Why do you think it is not “study level”?
I think it is study level - all systems seem to be simulated, including a working civa ins. You could really try to exercize all the normal procedures.

I made two checklists for the FSS 727, a simplified one with the use of the crew manager and all its automation and a full one, without the use of the crew manager ant the automations.

The simplified one is available to download for free on flightsim.to
https://de.flightsim.to/file/81301/fss-boeing-727-200f-simple-checklist-procedures

The full one is available to download for 1,99EUR at www.v-pilot.de

You can also see a full cold & dark video in german language here

Working civa and making all switches movable (with no coupling to anything) alone doesn’t make it a study level. If you read the 727 thread you’ll find some real 727 ex-pilots pointing out many inaccuracies. Plus maybe there’s a conflict in understanding the term “study level”. For me that means the aircraft behaves exactly the same as in reality and that’s apparently not the case with this one. But as I said in my previous post, I love it and it’s one of my favourite MSFS aircraft at the moment.

Thanks heaps for that guys…

I have absolutely fallen in love with steam gauge ever since I first got the 146 and have been hanging out for the milviz 732…
I’m feeling like the 727 would more than scratch that steamgauge itch, and especially watching a330 driver and Simpilot320 operating that ins guidance system… That looks like alot of fun…

I’m traveling at the moment and would love to maybe get this but I heard, like mentioned above… that there was another developer making the 727 … (Thanks heaps for mentioning the name of the other developer that’s making it so I can now follow their progress…)

What do you guys think about that other developer sws???
Will they do a different/better job and are they a well known brand…?? Will it be a neck and neck like fenix vs pmdg where quality will be great from both and it doesn’t really matter if I get the current one now or…
Will it be night and day like the carenardo and sws with the Pc12 and I should wait… I’m traveling anyway so that wouldn’t feel like I’m missing out on much… Just got a xbox controller though and I see that Simpilot320 uses a Xbox controller…

Also…
Guess the key one…

Will it be a separate or included package for the passenger version when the current developer (FSS) brings it out???
Will that other developer (SWS) offer their 727 as one package like pmdg 737 or, will it be like fenix and having to buy the passenger/cargo as separate packages?? Any inside information regarding that one…??

I think you could successfully argue that no aircraft in any sim behaves exactly like the real thing.

I love the 727. If not study-level, it’s not far off. Sure, it has a few minor bugs but what new aircraft in MSFS hasn’t?

I agree that FSR/SWS are going to have to pull something really special out of the bag with their 727. FSS surprised us all with the general completeness of their product, and the usual commitment to constantly updating is already being demonstrated.

I honestly doubt anyone could do much better. The FSR/SWS version will be at least another six months away, but should be native to FS2024 so may well take advantage of the new sim’s engine?

Well, that’s not what I exactly meant (flight model and dynamics) but I’m not going deeper into this tiring topic. It’s just my opinion that this B727 is still missing a bit to reach PMDG, Fenix or Just Flight level. Some people also think that for a “study level” aircraft the failures simulation is necessary.

So once again, FSS B727F is an awesome aircraft and although it still contains some bugs, some systems don’t work as they should and there are some inaccuracies (see B727 thread) I highly recommend it. Waiting for the other rendition is pointless because this one doesn’t cost much and I suspect the other team is still far from release. And FSS are apparently determined to make this one as good as possible.

Thanks for the reply mate much appreciated. I’ve found some info on that other company and they are releasing theirs for msfs 2024 so maybe I should get this one… Especially considering I’ve really been enjoying the Bae when it first came out and doing some freight runs will be fun…
The comments in the main thread seem quite good…
I kinda hope that the other company doesn’t like offer the whole lot in one package although I’m not sure if the 727-100, the plain 727 and the vip one would just fill up my space in the same way I don’t fly the 737-700/800bbj at all:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Are they any good with their products they create?

Personally I don’t own any of FS Reborn/SWS aircraft but from what I know they’re kind of respected.

A good choice that you’ll get the FSS version after all. You’ll love it, I’m sure

Thanks for your answer. I didn´t want to attack or offend you, to be clear. I really just wanted to know, why you think it isn´t study level. I think different opinions on the “definition” of “study level” are valid and I hope we all can have a civil conversation about it.

I agree, that it is not Fenix or PMDG level. But for me, I cannot think of switch that isn´t coupled to anything, but I might haved missed something. Missing failure managment isn´t a criteria for me personally, since you can simulate a lot of “failures” by just switching stuff off, so you can even execrize a lot of abnormal or emergency procedures in gerenrall in the sim (not only for this addon).

I’m kind of in the same boat as the OP. For now I’m going to just wait and see - I already have more aircraft that I really enjoy than I can possibly spend enough time with.

That said, I truly think “study level” gets vastly misused in flight simming. It’s vague, imprecise and frankly often used in kind of a condescending way. Rather, I prefer the term “high fidelity.” Clearly some aircraft are higher fidelity than others, but at least, you’re not trying to count the angels on a head of a pin trying to differentiate what airplane is “study level” and what one is not. But to say a plane is “high fidelity” simply means it’s good, well-simulated in many aspects and a good representation of the real thing for a desktop flight sim.

Just my two cents from the cheap seats as I ponder 727’s …

I also don’t take a failure simulation as the required criteria for the “study level” label. That would for example disqualify all those brilliant airplanes from Just Flight. I rather use “high definition” term, anyway. And I don’t need to defend myself for “criticizing” FSS. It was me who started the whole FSS B727 thread with announcements, screenshots etc. in the first place and btw. I’m a big fan of that company and their aircraft, including E-Jets. I just think their B727 is not there yet but they clearly aim to reach that Fenix PMDG level. They definitely stepped up the game with this one, anyway.

Hi,
Presently the FSS 727 is in the hangar.

There are just too many flaws for my taste. Whenever a new update appears, I check it out and some things seem to have been improved. But…

The electrical system, the hydraulic system, the fuel system, the pneumatic system, instrument system, the flight director system, the autopilot, the engines, the flight model and the textures as well as some animations need more work.

Hopefully FSS will address and correct them soon.

Just my two cents.

I’m the author of the review. Thanks for linking it! I was just about to post it here since it answers many of the questions regarding systems depth and the quality of the plane in general. Don’t mean to toot my own horn but I do recommend you guys read it if you want to know what the issues with it are currently.
