The difference in FPS between MSFS2024 and MSFS2020 is still significant

After flying MSFS2024 for a while, I was amazed by the smooth FPS when I returned to MSFS2020. Looking back at MSFS2024, the FPS performance and stuttering at a medium-sized airport with a single runway are not reassuring, as the settings are all in a moderate state.
At night, the FPS of MSFS2024 is even more disappointing.
What are the vision and goals of MSFS2024 product? Every year, I upgrade my computer from 980ti to 5080, but for some reason, I still can’t get a smooth and silky experience at any airport.
Whenever I play MSFS2024, I feel like my computer has to bear a heavy burden, with tens of gigabytes of video memory not enough, unexpected stuttering, and a sudden drop in FPS. I can only infinitely reduce the setting effect, which looks similar to a 3060 laptop.

That’s exactly it, and with FS24, we feel like we’re flying on fresh eggs from A to B. So we all come back to FS2020 and something happens instantly. We find FS2020 completely incredible.

I find MSFS 2024 to run better than MSFS 2020.

2020 does a much better job of DLSS (Frame Generation) inside the cockpit crisp and clear. Been waiting almost 8 months for 2024.

Ill agree. And even VR. It takes alot of tinkering with it to get it right. But its smooth for me with my 4080 super and 14700 . Yes with only 32gb of memory. GA of course. Even with the fss ejets no issues.

For me 2024 blows away 2020 performance wise. I seldom use 2020 anymore.

I have a pretty smooth performance with 2024 and I’m running triple 2k monitors. I have dlss enabled. My pc is an I9 14900k with an rtx 4090. Edit: I should include that I’m not on the beta version. Just SU2.

I have the KF version of that processor and a 4080 Super.

Hello!

Your reply really caught my attention, and I’d like to ask for a bit more clarification.

Is DLSS in MSFS 2020 actually that effective?

In the 2024 version, I find the image quite blurry, and it even feels like DLSS doesn’t improve performance at all — using TAA or DLSS gives me exactly the same FPS.

In contrast, in other games like TLOU or “Clair Obscure 33 ,” the improvement is very noticeable, and the image is much sharper, for example.

Please excuse my English, it’s not my first language.

Moved out from Sim Update 3 Beta | MSFS 2024 since not related to a SU3 regression.

Same here. No contest.

Your saying DLSS is better in 2024?

Yes in my case it is. I use preset K in the Nvidia app and DLAA in the sim.

Just don’t. More fps = downgrade graphics quality to 2020.

In initial release and in SU1 of 2024 i was happy that i have 30 fps on medium settings and graphics quality like in MSFS 2020 with 15 fps on ultra.

That 30 fps in 2024 was just feel smoother than 2020 with 50fps and stutters.

And now… after graphics downgrade - clouds quality and render distance in, intensification of TAA which introduced ghosting, and motion-blur like artifacts and overall worse graphics quality in SU2 i get now 40 fps, but at cost downgraded to 2020 quality or worse.

If i could i would back to SU1 or initial release which works and looks best for me. Im sorry that i written it, but i back to destroyed sim when i 2 days ago bought again game pass after some months of not playing it and i won’t buy game pass for next month. I was considered buy full version but now? Now i wouldn’t say it’s worth that money.

Same for me, 2024 performance is much better than 2020.

Yea so do I…

Last time I had both 2024 and 2020 installed on my PC, 2024 would get much better performance than 2020. So much so that I uninstalled 2020.

It always felt like MSFS 2020 would never fully utilize my hardware, while 2024 uses more of it.

My flying is done on VATSIM under both VFR and IFR in the Continental US in GA aircraft from Black Square, CAS, Just Flight, A2A, COWS, FSReborn just to name a few. I fly both low and high and it looks good to me. Good enough that I’m able to use my real VFR charts and figure out where I am and where to go even in a bare bones Piper Cub. I’m on a 500 up and down internet plan with eveything for the US downloaded and have a rolling cache of 300GB set up on an SSD. I also play MSFS 2024 with maxed out graphics settings. There is virtually no reason for me to use MSFS 2020 anymore.

I play 2020, because 2024 its not smooth enough for me. I play often in VR. 2024 had not catched me until now. Hope it will comes.. So when I will play 2024 (But without HOTAS… :frowning: and VR) I play it on Geforce Now Ulti.

Can this reduce the occurrence of stuttering?
