Does this sim feel like an endless goose chase for perfection? I don’t know about you, but I spend more time testing to resolve graphics/performance issues than actually flying for fun. Are we being too fussy? I don’t know. It’s a frustrating experience because sometimes trying to get the sim how you want it is like searching for the holy grail. And when you think you’ve found it, it slips away after another botched update. Don’t get me wrong I love this sim, but I do feel more like a beta tester than a simmer sometimes.
I personally think people focus way too much on fps counters, and not enough on having fun.
Disabling any FPS counters is the best decision I’ve made.
I agree but stutters and graphical glitches are hard to ignore…
For some reason when the sim first came out I was far more tolerant. Now after 7 updates I’m expecting more.
I’m not getting glitches, and limited my FPS to 38 from the drivers. Not getting stutters either, but I must admit I have a pretty beefy PC.
Been that way on every sim I had from FS5 onwards.
Not for me personally. I grab my charts then hop on MSFS start up vPilot (for VATSIM) hop in the Cessna 152 with the mod (most of the time) and go have fun. I spend far, far less time messing around with MSFS than I do XP and P3D (which I have loads of addons for). I’m playing MSFS at full blast (aside from the render scaling at 100) and it’s rather peachy.
I think some users don’t want to admit that their PC is getting old and they are moving the sliders and settings back and forth in order to avoid reality.
I’m often endlessly amazed how people that use a 2D monitor can complain about issues with performance. You ain’t seen nothing yet! Try VR and then let’s talk again about performance issues… People in 2D live in performance paradise and apparently they don’t know it…
Well, VR is basically the attempt to run the game on two 2D monitor at the same time.
and in the sharpness / shadow / reflection / geometry paradise.
I’ll do somersaults when the Optic in VR is at DCS level at some point.
But to be fair, it took a while there too.
I have a mid to high range pc and have had great performance and everything is as good as I want it. But this falls away after updates and hot fixes, forcing me to return to hours of testing to try and get it back to where it was before.
I never really changed my settings despite all the updates. I run the game on 1080p, with some high settings but mostly medium or off. I have a decent experience with smooth FPS. I don’t need to squeeze every high or ultra out of the game.
it’s hard to ignore FPS when I have 2 FPS after the update (before: 30-40).
Ever since I got a new PC back in February of last year I have not once had to really mess around with the settings to my knowledge, they’ve always been cranked up to the max (aside from the render scale set to 100, I did tinker with this a bit but playing at 1440p I decided it’s best to keep it at 100). In fact I’ve only been increasing them as more have became available. Maybe you should ask yourself if your hardware is getting long in the tooth for MSFS. What exactly do you have in your rig?
This is very true, which is partly why even with the recent performance additions with the sim and VR (NIS scaling and better Nvidia drivers) my love of VR is limited. At least on a 2D screen the ‘endless goose chase’ isn’t really quite as endless.
I am inclined to agree that people are worrying too much over graphics settings. I haven’t moved the sliders since update 2. It looks fantastic most of the time, much better than other simulators, so I cannot complain too much.
My settings have stayed the same since release. But bugs me azure goes down or I get bandwidth warning 10 feet off the landing runway. Normally it works ok, and I don’t fuss with it, but lately trying to get freeware planes to work and not seeing any sucess with that, lots of CTD’s. Think going to give up on that period and hopefully a developer one day will release one I like for this sim. I hate the loading times though.
To OP: Not really, at least for me. I have over 550 flight hours, and less than 10 CTD’s. Very few FPS-problems and very few stutter issues on a medium system (i5-9600K, GTX 970 graphics card). I hardly make changes after an update. Seems it varies greatly individually. Sorry to hear of your issues…
Its been a year and my Fps counter tells me 22fps 50ms drawtime on frames from gpu…not sure if its my 3070 or what…
i dont pay attention to frames for this game, ( i should) but its VR and the 3070 is doing well with steamvr beta (non beta is stuttery mess)
even with a constant 22fps its smooth enough to feel like im flying and get vertigo once flying into clouds.
