So coming from more advanced F-18 flight models I kinda was expecting a lil more from the F-18 in MSFS (NOT QUITE DCS) but the performance and capabilities of the MSFS F-18 is really sad.
1:Canopy doesnt open…If you use addons such as FSRealistic its nice when the canopy opens
2:Doesnt do flight maneuvers fully or at all.
A hard bank turn and the plane becomes unresponsive and kinda goes all over the place, so maneuverability needs fixed.0
3: The flaps are always down even on the ground parked and they and the speed break are always deploying on their own.
4: The HUD is off and not quite on target.
5:so much inop buttons…Thats just laziness
5: The parking break config is off it doesnt stop the aircraft
6: The engines RPM’s seem under powered.
prob more but I was too fed up with the plane to continue
To be honest, I don’t know why people expect anything from a plane that is part of a free update.
I’m sure the mod community will get to work on it soon enough!
… and no external fuel tanks. Something not at all related to weapons, and an integral part of simulating a flight in the aircraft.
The market was to keep 7-12 year xbox users engaged (same with Reno), not really sure what you were expecting for free especially when comparing a pricey DCS add-on that took years to develop…
agree with all noted…
even if it is free… a minimum of detail dedication is expected from the developers… seems something released in alpha stage…
I is very very poor addon.
In my post I said Not quite DCS so not really comparing.
But…You would expect a lil more…On the upside this hopefully opens the door to 3rd party and if they dont keep breaking the SDK a better F-18
I look forward to meaningful updates for this aircraft now.
Cheers and thank you.
Once landed, how do the engines stop?
I also agree with the comments above, if you want the “real” F18 buy DCS, not FS2020
Hello, can anyone tell me how the afterburners are activated?thank you very much
Bind a button to it.
My disappointment with the F18 is no setting switch to turn these annoying planes off. Bombing around airports they don’t belong and just being a nuisance.
I’m a 40 year old Xbox user and I thoroughly enjoy flying the F/A-18.
You enable fuel cutoff on the throttle levers.
It sounds to me that most of your complaints are pretty much tied to not knowing the subject matter.
1: Hardly an issue.
2: “hard” maneuvering causing a heavy fighter jet to become unresponsive is how it works. Piloting this kind of aircraft is all about being smooth. You’re not piloting a TIE Fighter.
3: That’s why the setting is called “auto” right there on the label.
4: The hud points to your travel direction. It’s not off. You have a crosswind.
5: No. It’s just a default aircraft.
5 (b?): It absolutely does. Pulling activates the emergency brake, twisting activates and deactivates the parking brake. Just like the real thing.
6: According to what?
This is a default aircraft, so expecting full realism is not realistic (pun intended), but before you complain that an aircraft is “sad” you may want to actually research how it works and compare it to the real thing, not to your fictional expectations of it.
- Canopy doesn’t open - neither do the doors in any other plane
- Doesn’t maneuverer - just making that up
- Flaps always down - no they are not
- HUD not on target - no idea what that means
- Inop buttons - ¯_(ツ)_/¯
5: Parking break doesn’t work - yes it does - RPM - how would you know?
elitist comment is elitist, everybody does what you want because if they don’t they are a child?
It’s kind of on par with higher end Xplane freeware. Maybe a little better in the looks dept. I am sure that it will get much attention and be a lot better in the coming months. You also have to remember that DCS will release an unfinished product and make promises that are to come only to not deliver in many cases. I have planes in DCS that I have had for 6 years and still aren’t finished, and most likely never will be. I don’t think that this will be the case with MFS.
Even though there are bumps in the road and lots of work to be done on MFS, it’s still better than anything out there at this point and I can at least see what the intentions are with many of their patches and updates. Other sims are just a mystery and don’t focus on much more than generating new, incomplete products. I for one am grateful for MFS bugs and all at this point.
I think he’s actually more correct than you’re giving him credit for.

Considering how much the horrible Eurofighter (compared to which this is a gem of realism and basically a masterpiece) has been selling on PC since way, way before the Xbox version was even a thing, no, he’s not. Not even close.
