The landscape I want

There are two words in China, sending charcoal in the snow and adding icing on the cake. China has many beautiful cities and airports to develop, and it has the largest population in the world, but it has almost no scenery to buy.

As the above two words mean, put your energy into a competitive area. Maybe your work is excellent, but they will consider the landscape they like.

And so many Chinese players, like people suffering from hunger and cold, even if it’s just a very ordinary work, we also need it urgently.

The value of a landscape is the same as the prop of the League of heroes. We can easily pay for it.

Do you know the story of the little match girl? I think you should understand this story better than the Chinese people. Everything she saw was so beautiful. This is timely help.

Do you know the story of Titanic? Sapphire can’t win Ruth’s heart, why? Because that’s not what she wanted, that’s icing on the cake.

If you are a discerning businessman, you should know how to invest to get a return. Why can’t you see the market?

Finally, I may wish that the scenery I want most is Xiamen and Gaoqi Airport (zsam)

This is the China I’d like to see in MSFS 2020:

Fully agree, I’d like to see that province as well… Q: How are things organized in China ? Would it be possible to get the elevation data from large areas from some bureau or institute ? In Europe and the US we have a lot of local sources providing elevation maps…

Landscapes like the ones shown above by CalUKGR need very detailed elevation data. I think the landscape in the top picture posted here could be beautiful in MSFS… with a good tree distance… the bottom picture should be handcrafted… no elevation map will be good enough to show that !

@CalUKGR The top one is Guilin/Yangshuo and it’s my most favorite area in China and the one in game is absolutely disappointing. I was dreaming about flying there in game, went there and was severely let down. However, I think it can be done since people are making mods using LIDAR DEM data now to add accurate terrain and elevation maps in game. They’ve already done it for the Alps and someone just uploaded one for Norway  All hope isn’t lost yet  They just need the .tiff data of the area to do it. I believe I found a website that has that data of the whole earth  I just need someone that knows how to implement specific areas in game.

I suppose there’s no accurate Bing data… in that case there’s some handwork involved in nature scenes too, even when the elevation data is available and the landscape is quite smooth, like the top picture. You see these rocks, next to the forest everywhere ? Someone will have to label “tree probability” areas… and “rocky” areas, to make it look similar. It is no grassland, which would be default… apply water masks… It’s a lot of work to do this for many places in China but it would be a fantastic world update.

Try asking this guy: Flightsim.to » Profile of Troglodytus

He’s been uploading DEM for European locations. I mentioned to him in the comments at flightsim.to that I would love to see some SE Asian DEM data uploaded. He asked me if I knew anyone who had some data for that region.

Can you send him this website? I can’t log into Flightsim right now as I’ve forgotten my password  It has data on pretty much everywhere in the world so one of them can do China, Japan, South Korea or any Southeast Asian country they want  They just have to select the area on this map and it’ll show downloads for those areas.

ASF Data Search)

Done. :+1:

Thank you lad  Hopefully we can get some Asian LIDAR DEM soon

The real problem is that the relevant data might not be readily available, have a look here: Restrictions on geographic data in China - Wikipedia
Best case scenario - and that would actually be great - would be a dataset older than 2002.

Putting myself in a software developer’s shoes, the first thing that comes to mind is that the folks in China aren’t real big on actually paying for the software they use.

Which is fine for the open source guys, not so much for those looking to make a living.

Is this what you’re talking about?
I made this a while ago but it didn’t finish it.

It’s in Zhangjiajie, China.

He’s talking about Zhangjiajie, but I’m talking about the karst hills of Guilin/Yangshuo. They are horribly represented in game. So is the rest of China sadly.

Yes, we can thank the overzealous micromanagement by the CCP for that.

There are more ways than difficulties. It would be wrong to define it as the reason for not getting data before development.

Because x-plane11 can choose China in steam, and provides simplified Chinese, Microsoft China has more relationship advantages than XP developers, so they did not make efforts. But this is secondary. We can get Chinese from unofficial sources.

But we can’t get the scenery from any way. There is a saying in China: “the problem that can be solved with money is not a problem. If it can’t be solved, then pay more money.” But I’m afraid even Tony Stark, Bruce Wayne and Elon Musk can’t solve this problem. Wait, maybe they will choose to buy a game company or a plug-in company. OK, they can solve it. But it’s still a problem.

In addition, there are many Chinese airports in P3D and Xp11. At least I don’t think the coordinates of the airports are incorrect, because autopilot can always make the aircraft aim at the center of the runway and complete the landing. So there is no data problem, or the data is public. I don’t know how the airport is made, but I think the data can be found in the file. I can provide most Chinese airports of Xp11.

Let’s go back to law, not politics. At least no one will be held legally responsible for the production of China’s airport landscape. If it’s just playing games, no one will care about it. I don’t think anyone will use game data to endanger security. Because there are many ways to get more accurate data, you can use your imagination. But the existence of the law is by the meaning, you can not break the law, but not without the law. It’s subtle and it’s Chinese.

Finally, we talk about gratitude. I often see that the line drawing of an airport is not standard, and the position of the door is not right. I’m sure most of us don’t make such harsh demands, but are grateful for the scenery.

As long as the plane can fly automatically and land safely on the runway, it is a good landscape. After all, we’ve all run over the ground crew on the runway. It’s just a game.

I hope that someone will try to help us create the landscape. I will tell more Chinese simulated flight players and help you through their power.

You can leave your email.

China has the potential to have the most impressive sceneries. Due to strange laws of the land, accurate representation of China is not legal. At best you will have to settle for hand-crafted sceneries for specific locations just like X-plane, Prepar3d and FSX (likely at a cost).

Please tell someone to add the Guilin/Yangshuo area to the game because I would absolutely love to fly around there and see the gorgeous karst scenery. It would also be wonderful to see the Leshan Buddha in game as well. China has so many amazing temples and gorgeous sceneries and it’s such a shame that people can’t experience it in Flight Simulator.

You’re right. I want to make Leshan Giant Buddha, Zhangjiajie and Guilin elephant trunk mountain without any legal punishment. But I advise, don’t make three gorges dam, lol

I agree with you that some proper scenery covering China would be great. I visited a few places some years ago and I would love to ‘fly back’.
But I’m aware that unless something incredible happens we’re mostly stuck with what we have.
Hey, hope won’t kill us and you never know.

@CurrentBadger42, what’s stopping you, then. OK, maybe you’re like me and you can’t code, but you can learn, or find someone who can do it for you. Just do it!
