Recently I bought a 2nd hand TUF 3070 OC for the sim. It seems work really well. After applying the undervolt is capable to give me at 1080p a strong 55-60 fps in the FBW (limited by CPU) with a power limit of 60% (150-160W).
But the temperature called my attention: with a load of 40-50% it jumps into 75-78ºC and stays there. Those temp are very stable. When I check the afterburner graph, the temp is almost a flat line. I know the limit for this card is 95º, but are those temps normal for such low load?
Would love to know other experiences with the sim and this card because I am concerned about having to open it up to change the thermal paste (mostly for the risk of breaking one of the thermal pads).
Regards
Thermal pads can and should be replaced too however they need to be of the right size and thickness so you may need to buy an assortment and cut to size. There’s no guarantee they are the same for all makes and models so I’d search the web for more info. Also I can’t imagine a PC repair shop would charge a huge amount for the job so it’s always worth asking.
Btw those temps sound high but could still be fairly normal so research them first.
Hi maddormo,
I use a ROG STRIX RTX3080oc and it always sits around the 70c mark. Unless the area fills with other players, YSSY on a Saturday (90 to 140), then the card tries to hit 83c and more. The card can handle this easily but me and my loungeroom can’t. So, I have a hi powered external desk fan blowing in through the top mesh of my case, forcing cool air onto the back side of the massive video card, plus hardrives and it brings it back down to 70 -75c. So, in short, around 75c is the normal running temp for a RTX3xxx card under ‘normal’ load in MSFS and other large titles. Hitman3 won’t go under 80c with all fans blowing.
The past days I’ve been searching info about the size of the thermal pads of this card and, sadly, I didn’t find a trustworthy source. In youtube there is a ton of videos about the 3080 and other models of 3070, but not for this card
But before make any maintenance I would prefer to be sure if it’s absolutely necessary or not.
Thanks for the info, that’s make me feel calmer. Anyhow I’ll continue monitoring the temps. And particularly when the summer arrives.
Thanks you both.
If you can live without your gpu for a few days you could disassemble your card and measure the thickness of any pads but allow an extra 0.25mm - 0.5mm when ordering. Alternatively you could use thermally conductive siicone paste that does much the same job. Athough I have used it for this purpose without probems it was never on such a high end card so no promises.
As @eViLoZzy66 said, those temps seem ok for the 30xx generation. But I’ll prefer to wait until summer. Then, if I detect a serious increase in the temps (beyond 83-85º), I’ll try to replace the paste and pads.
In the meantime I’ll continue to search more experiences with this card and the sim.
Anyhow, thanks for the tips.
