The update X for the USA has really brought the Grand Canyon closer to realistic. I flew as low as I dared up the Colorado River from Grand Canyon Village to AZ30 (an airstrip near the northern end of the Canyon. It was SPECTACULAR! I could almost see the layers of Geological strata and individual rocks and boulders as I flew along the river trying to stay below 1000 feet above the Canyon floor.
Are there before and after shots somewhere? I canāt tell if the elevation and imagery has actually been updated in the Grand Canyon, the screenshots look like pretty much what I remember the last time I was there.
It would be awesome if they did the canyons in photogrammetry. It seems like the perfect application for it, where the melty, warping distortion that plagues the cities would be a non-issue in a more organic landscape like that. The top down DEM mesh and aerial textures of non-photogrammetry really suffer with those vertical cliff faces.
I am not on the best system (not an RTX graphics card just a GTX 1060) but the images here have more color and rich detail than in my earlier flights. Here is a picture from a Grand Canyon Flight before the update X.
I am sure someone with a top of the line graphics card and a fast internet speed could show the detail difference a whole lot better than I can. Or maybe it is just a mental illusion on my part.
I have not seen it since the update but your photos look an improvement since my last Canyon flight. No matter how perfect they get it, I have never seen any photo or video of the Grand Canyon that captures the in-person beauty of that place. Hiking the Bright Angel Trail is one of lifeās finest adventures.
GC was the first place I checked out with WU10 and it didnāt seem improved to me at all. At one point the river was on a fake raised ledge and looked awful, the rocks still looked smooth and rounded while flying through it.
Same here. I canāt hardly see the difference and would appreciate from MS/Asobo, for this specific area what has been improved. Obviously, far from high priority of course!
I can say Monument Valley got worsened with WU 10. Especially, wrong interpretation of buttesā shadows into strange dark color rectangles printed on the earth is the worst.
I flew there first, and thought some of the texturing on the sides of the non-hand made terrain looked a little tough. That typical stretched look you get from any near vertical terrain.
